Der Hausmannsturm entstand im 6. Jahrhundert als Schutzanlage für die Solequellen einer fränkischen Salzsiedlung und wurde 998 erstmals als „Franconhus“ urkundlich erwähnt. Nach einem Neubau im Jahr 1210 war die Burg Teil der Stadtbefestigung. Mit dem Verlust ihrer militärischen Bedeutung diente sie später als Unterkunft für Stadt- und Brandwächter; um 1560 wurde erstmals der Name „Hausmannsturm“ verwendet. Die Anlage gehörte den Grafen von Schwarzburg und verlor nach dem Bau einer zweiten Burg um 1380 zunehmend an Bedeutung. Nach dem Dreißigjährigen Krieg verfiel sie zur Ruine. Um 1700 übernahm die Stadt die Burg und richtete sie für einen Wächter ein, der das wichtige Salzwerk überwachte. Seitdem ist die Bezeichnung Hausmannsturm gebräuchlich. Heute gilt der Hausmannsturm als Wahrzeichen der Stadt, steht unter Denkmalschutz und wird vom Motorsportclub e. V. im ADAC erhalten und bewirtschaftet. Der Turm selbst kann nicht bestiegen werden. Allerdings hat man von der Terrasse direkt vor dem Turm eine wundervolle Sicht über Bad Frankenhausen.

Après avoir été reconstruite en 1210, la forteresse fit partie des fortifications de la ville. Ayant perdu son importance militaire, elle servit plus tard de logement aux gardes municipaux et aux pompiers ; c'est vers 1560 que le nom de « Hausmannsturm » fut utilisé pour la première fois. Le site appartenait aux comtes de Schwarzburg et perdit progressivement de son importance après la construction d’un deuxième château vers 1380. Après la guerre de Trente Ans, il tomba en ruine. Vers 1700, la ville reprit possession du château et l’aménagea pour y loger un gardien chargé de surveiller l’importante saline. Depuis lors, le nom de Hausmannsturm est couramment utilisé. Aujourd’hui, la Hausmannsturm est considérée comme l’emblème de la ville, elle est classée monument historique et est entretenue et gérée par le Motorsportclub e. V. au sein de l’ADAC. Il n'est pas possible de monter au sommet de la tour. Cependant, depuis la terrasse située juste devant la tour, on a une vue magnifique sur Bad Frankenhausen.
The Hausmannsturm was built in the 6th century as a defensive structure to protect the brine springs of a Frankish salt settlement and was first mentioned in a document in 998 as “Franconhus.” After being rebuilt in 1210, the castle became part of the city fortifications. With the loss of its military significance, it later served as quarters for city guards and fire watchmen; the name “Hausmannsturm” was first used around 1560. The complex belonged to the Counts of Schwarzburg and gradually lost its importance after the construction of a second castle around 1380. After the Thirty Years’ War, it fell into ruin. Around 1700, the city took over the castle and converted it into a residence for a guard who oversaw the important salt works. Since then, the name Hausmannsturm has been in common use. Today, the Hausmannsturm is considered a landmark of the city, is a listed historic monument, and is maintained and managed by the Motorsportclub e. V. within the ADAC. The tower itself cannot be climbed. However, the terrace directly in front of the tower offers a wonderful view of Bad Frankenhausen.

Po przebudowie w 1210 roku zamek stał się częścią fortyfikacji miejskich. Wraz z utratą znaczenia militarnego służył później jako kwatera dla strażników miejskich i strażaków; około 1560 roku po raz pierwszy użyto nazwy „Hausmannsturm”.
