Der Ort Rauenstein, zugehörig zur Gemeinde Frankenblick liegt romantisch eingebettet in einem Tal, umrahmt von über 800m hohen dichtbewaldeten Bergen am Südhang des Thüringer Waldes. Die einzigartige Landschaft zwischen Coburg und dem bekanntesten Wanderweg Thüringens, dem Rennsteig, überzeugt schon in den ersten Stunden. Das Wahrzeichen des Ortes ist die Burgruine "Rauenstein", die im 30jährigen Krieg bis auf ein paar Mauerreste vollends zerstört wurde. Unmittelbar davor befindet sich die St.-Marien-Georgskirche, welche zugleich Orts-, Burg- und Begräbniskirche der Herren von Schaumberg war. In Rauenstein siedelte sich 1784 die Porzellanindustrie an. Die hohen Gebrauchseigenschaften des Rauensteiner Porzellans machten es weltweit bekannt und beliebt. Im Museum Neues Schloss Rauenstein ist die Geschichte der Porzellanindustrie dargestellt, viele schöne Ausstellungsstücke lassen Sammlerherzen höher schlagen. Besonders bekannt ist die Firma "Schildkröt". Die beliebten "Schildkröt-Puppen" kann man ebenfalls im Museum Neues Schloss Rauenstein bewundern. Wander- und Radwanderwege laden dazu ein, die Region um Rauenstein zu erkunden. Herrliche Fernblicke werden Sie auf Ihren Touren begeistern. Bei Wanderungen bis hinauf zum nahegelegenen Rennsteig oder in das Vorland des Thüringer Waldes finden Sie Erholung und Entspannung. Wandern, Radeln und im Winter ausgedehnte Langlauf- und Winterwanderwege durch eine herrlich verschneite Winterlandschaft garantieren einen abwechslungsreichen Aufenthalt. Auch lohnt im Sommer ein Besuch der "Zinselhöhle", der einzig naturbelassenen Tropfsteinhöhle in Südthüringen, im Nachbarort Meschenbach.
