Lake Seeburg, one of Lower Saxony’s largest natural lakes, with its crystal-clear waters perfect for swimming and a diverse array of wildlife in its protected shoreline areas, is definitely worth a visit. There is much to discover, learn, and experience around, on, and in Lake Seeburg, the “Eye of the Eichsfeld.” A natural swimming area, mini-golf, and the Nature Experience Center, along with boat rentals, a horseback riding stable, and connections to regional cycling and hiking trails, round out the offerings. Lake Seeburg was formed approximately 10,000 years ago by the subsidence of the ground as a result of natural salt leaching. Leaching and subsidence have created an extensive water system throughout the region, which includes not only Lake Seeburg but also the rivers Eller, Rhume, and Hahle, among others.
