About: Hauptgebäude der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, Main building of the Bauhaus University Weimar

Von 1904 bis 1911 wurde das Hauptgebäude der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar nach Plänen Henry van de Veldes als Ateliergebäude für die »Großherzoglich Sächsische Hochschule für bildende Kunst in Weimar« errichtet. Es ist einer der bedeutendsten Kunstschulbauten der Jahrhundertwende und war 1919 Gründungsort des Bauhauses. 1999 wurde durch die Sanierung weitgehend der Originalzustand wiederhergestellt. Genutzt wird das Gebäude heute von der Bauhaus-Universität Weimar durch die Fakultät Architektur und Urbanistik und dem Büro des Präsidenten. Das Gebäude zählt seit 1996 zum UNESCO Welterbe "Das Bauhaus und seine Stätten in Dessau und Weimar".

From 1904 to 1911, the main building of the Bauhaus University Weimar was constructed according to plans by Henry van de Velde as a studio building for the "Grand Ducal Saxon College of Fine Arts in Weimar". It is one of the most important art school buildings of the turn of the century and was the founding site of the Bauhaus in 1919. In 1999, renovation work largely restored the building to its original condition. Today, the building is used by the Bauhaus University Weimar through the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Studies and the Office of the President. The building has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site "The Bauhaus and its Sites in Dessau and Weimar" since 1996.
