Situé à l'entrée du ruisseau du même nom dans la large plaine alluviale fertile de la Saale, le village (192 m d'altitude, 407 habitants) est mentionné pour la première fois dans un document en 1140 sous le nom d'Etcelbeche. La belle et dominante église de style gothique a été construite dans les années 1867-69. L'ancienne église se trouvait au sud-est de l'actuelle, sur le lieu de culte. Le mariage de la fille cadette de Friedrich Schiller, Emilie, avec Albert von Gleichen-Rußwurm, qui y eut lieu le 29 juillet 1828, la rendit célèbre au-delà des frontières locales. Dès 1900, l'ancien bâtiment du domaine a été transformé en maison d'invalides et une maison de convalescence pour femmes et jeunes filles a été construite sur le Eichberg. Avec la maison de retraite acquise en 1991 par l'œuvre sociale Heuser et rénovée de fond en comble, le lieu exerce une grande attraction sur les visiteurs. Un café invite à la détente. Plusieurs appartements de vacances sont disponibles pour passer la nuit. Le nouveau quartier résidentiel "In dem Tale" a été créé au nord-ouest du village.

The village (192 m above sea level, 407 inhabitants), situated at the entrance of the stream of the same name into the wide fertile Saale floodplain, was first mentioned in documents in 1140 as Etcelbeche. The beautiful and dominant church in Gothic style was built in 1867-69. The old church stood southeast of the present one on the churchyard. Due to the wedding of Friedrich Schiller's youngest daughter, Emilie, with Albert von Gleichen-Rußwurm, which took place in the church on July 29, 1828, the church became famous beyond the borders of the village. As early as 1900, the former estate building was opened as a home for invalids after reconstruction and a convalescent home for women and girls was built on the Eichberg. With the retirement home, which was acquired by the Sozialwerk Heuser in 1991 and renovated from the ground up, the place exerts a great attraction on visitors. A café invites you to linger. Several vacation apartments are available for overnight stays. Northwest of the village the new residential area "In dem Tale" was developed.

Der am Eintritt des gleichnamigen Baches in die breite fruchtbare Saaleaue liegende Ort (192 m ü. NN, 407 Einwohner) wird im Jahre 1140 als Etcelbeche erstmals urkundlich erwähnt. Die schöne und dominante Kirche im gotischen Stil wurde in den Jahren 1867-1869 erbaut. Die alte Kirche stand südöstlich von der jetzigen auf dem Gottesacker. Durch die in ihr am 29. Juli 1828 stattgefundene Hochzeit der jüngsten Tochter Friedrich Schillers, Emilie, mit Albert von Gleichen-Rußwurm wurde sie über die Ortsgrenzen hinaus bekannt. Schon im Jahre 1900 wurde das ehemalige Gutsgebäude nach dem Umbau als Invalidenheim eröffnet und ein Genesungsheim für Frauen und Mädchen auf dem Eichberg errichtet. Mit dem vom Sozialwerk Heuser 1991 erworbenen und von Grund auf sanierten Seniorenheim übt der Ort eine große Anziehungskraft auf die Besucher aus. Ein Café lädt zum Verweilen ein. Zum Übernachten stehen mehrere Ferienwohnungen zur Verfügung. Nordwestlich des Dorfes entstand das neue Wohngebiet "In dem Tale".
