Alterstedt est un quartier de la municipalité de Schönstedt dans le district d'Unstrut-Hainich. Situé de façon idyllique sur le versant est du parc national de Hainich, classé au patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO, Alterstedt, avec ses fermes à quatre côtés et ses maisons à colombages entretenues avec amour, se présente aux visiteurs et aux habitants comme un village où il fait bon vivre et aimer. Au pied de l'église protestante du village de St. Pankratius, à côté de la salle paroissiale, se trouve un arbre unique particulièrement imposant et précieux, le tilleul du village d'Alterstedt. Le puissant tilleul d'été, qui mesure 18 mètres de haut et dont le tronc a une circonférence moyenne de 7,5 mètres, est considéré comme le point de repère du village et orne le blason du petit village. Son âge est estimé entre 500 et 600 ans. Un sentier de randonnée circulaire de quatre kilomètres, qui part de l'Alterstedt Hainichschenke, mène à la limite du parc national de Hainich. Le long du bois du village d'Alterstedt "Schieferwiese", il passe par les roseaux et le terrain de sport pour revenir au village. Si vous le souhaitez, vous pouvez également faire une randonnée à partir du sentier circulaire vers le "Thiemsburg". Vous y trouverez le centre du parc national de Hainich et le "treetop trail", construit en 2004 et connu dans toute l'Allemagne.

Alterstedt is a district of the municipality of Schönstedt in the Unstrut-Hainich district. Idyllically situated on the eastern slope of the UNESCO Hainich National Park, Alterstedt with its lovingly maintained four-sided farmsteads and half-timbered houses presents itself to visitors and locals alike as a village worth living and loving. At the foot of the Protestant village church of St. Pankratius next to the parish hall stands a particularly imposing and valuable single tree, the Alterstedt village lime tree. The mighty summer lime tree, which is 18 meters high and has a trunk circumference of 7.5 meters on average, is considered the landmark of the village and adorns the coat of arms of the small village. Its age is estimated at 500 to 600 years. A four-kilometre circular hiking trail, which starts at the Alterstedt Hainichschenke, leads to the edge of the Hainich National Park. Along the Alterstedt village wood "Schieferwiese" it goes over the reeds and the sports field back to the village. If you wish, you can also hike on from the circular trail to the "Thiemsburg". There you will find the Hainich National Park Centre and the "treetop trail", which was built in 2004 and is known throughout Germany.

Am Fuße der evangelischen Dorfkirche St. Pankratius neben dem Gemeindehaus steht ein besonders imposanter und wertvoller Einzelbaum, die Alterstedter Dorflinde. Die mächtige Sommerlinde, die 18 Meter hoch ist und einen Stammumfang von durchschnittlich 7,5 Metern hat, gilt als das Wahrzeichen des Dorfes und ziert das Wappen des kleinen Ortes. Sein Alter wird auf 500 bis 600 Jahre geschätzt. Ein vier Kilometer langer Rundwanderweg, der an der Alterstedter Hainichschenke beginnt, führt bis an den Rand des Nationalparks Hainich. Entlang des Alterstedter Dorfwäldchens "Schieferwiese" geht es über das Schilf und den Sportplatz zurück in den Ort. Wer möchte, kann vom Rundweg auch weiter zur "Thiemsburg" wandern. Dort befindet sich das Nationalparkzentrum Hainich und der 2004 errichtete, deutschlandweit bekannte "Baumkronenpfad".
