Die Naturforschende Gesellschaft Altenburg e.V. (NfGA e.V.) ist der Nachfolger der 1817 gegründeten Naturforschenden Gesellschaft des Osterlandes, welche 1945 zwangsaufgelöst und im Geiste der naturforschend Tätigen im Jahre 1990 wiedergegründet wurde. Zweck der NFGA ist die Naturforschung im weiten Sinne und die daraus resultierende Bildungsarbeit und der Wille, Beiträge zur gesellschaftlichen Entwicklung zu leisten. Der Verein ist global tätig, legt seinen Fokus jedoch auf Mitteldeutschland.
