About: Extratour Thulbataler - Oberthulba - Rhön, Extratour Thulbataler - Oberthulba - Rhön

From January 10th to probably June 30th, 2024, only the southern half of the Extratour can be hiked. Due to demolition work on a motorway bridge, the northern half of the tour is not accessible. The start of the tour is therefore temporarily at the sports field in Thulba. You can find the address for navigation in the arrival information. We start at the former farm gardens in Oberthulba and hike through the Thulba meadow into a core zone of the Rhön Biosphere Reserve. The original forest impresses us with mighty block piles made of 240 million year old red sandstone. On the Thulba riverside path we come downstream to the Reither mill and soon to a historic irrigation system. The extra tour takes us past floodplain meadows to a water treading pool and finally to the outskirts of Thulba. We discover a 400-year-old arched bridge with a wayside shrine on our tour. We take a break at the water ski facility with a restaurant. Who will be daring and go for a spin on water skis? As the next stage we climb the hill of the “Auraer Trift” corridor section. Here we enjoy the hilly Thulba Valley. Through colorful mixed forest we reach a meadow hill above the Reither mill. Back we hike down the slope on a path through old forest. We reach our starting point through the picturesque Rhöner Feldflur.
