Von Saalfeld aus verläuft die Route zunächst entlang der Saale in Richtung Remschützer Sandberge - hier wurde im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert Sand und Sandstein abgebaut. Von dort geht es weiter durch das Grauwinkeltal und die Uhlstädter Heide in Richtung Weißbach. Über den Pfaffensteig, einen traumhaften 1,5 km langen Singletrail, erreicht man das Örtchen Weißenbach im Teufelsgrund. Vorbei an der idyllischen Kirche folgt wenig später das Schloss Weißenburg mit Biergarten und im Anschluss das Flößereimuseum. Hier gibt es viel Interessantes zur Geschichte und Technik der Flößerei auf der Saale zu entdecken. Weiter geht es auf wenig befahrenen Teerstraßen nach Partschefeld und Kleinkochberg bis zum Luisenturm mit einzigartigem Weitblick über die Region. Das nächste Highlight der Tour ist das Wasserschloss und Liebhabertheater Kochberg - es war einst der Landsitz von Goethes geliebter Frau von Stein. Durch ein malerisches Tal, vorbei an der romantischen Kapelle Weitersdorf, geht es weiter über Teichweiden nach Rudolstadt. Hier liegt ein weiteres Highlight der Tour - die Heidecksburg. Ein Rundgang durch das barocke Schloss und ein Blick über die Stadt lohnen sich. Über einen der Schlossaufgänge geht es in Richtung Marktplatz und Rathaus. Im Anschluss folgen der reizvolle Heinrich-Heine-Park und das Freilichtmuseum "Thüringer Bauernhäuser". Entlang der Saale gelangt man schließlich wieder zum Ausgangspunkt.

Depuis Saalfeld, le parcours suit d’abord la Saale en direction des collines de sable de Remschützer - ici, du sable et du grès ont été extraits aux 19e et 20e siècles. Le point fort suivant de la tournée est le château d’eau et théâtre d’amateurs Kochberg, qui fut autrefois la résidence de dame von Stein, chère à Goethe. Par une vallée pittoresque, en passant par la chapelle romantique Weitersdorf, on poursuit par Teichweiden jusqu’à Rudolstadt. Ici se trouve une autre attraction du parcours - la Heidecksburg. Une visite guidée du château baroque et un regard sur la ville valent le détour. Par une des entrées du château, on se dirige vers la place du marché et la mairie. Ensuite, on passe par le charmant parc Heinrich-Heine et le musée en plein air "maisons rurales de Thuringe". Le long de la Saale, on retourne finalement au point de départ.

Starting from Saalfeld, the route initially follows the Saale towards the Remschützer Sandberge - sand and sandstone were mined here in the 19th and 20th centuries. From there, it continues through the Grauwinkeltal and the Uhlstädter Heide towards Weißenbach. Across the Pfaffensteig, a wonderful 1.5 km long single trail, you reach the village of Weißenbach in the Teufelsgrund. Past the idyllic church comes soon after the Weissenburg Castle with beer garden and then the Rafting Museum. Here you can discover a lot of interesting facts about the history and technology of rafting on the Saale. The route then continues on lightly trafficked paved roads through Partschefeld and Kleinkochberg to the Luisenturm with a unique panoramic view over the region. The next highlight of the route is the Watercastle and Liebhabertheater Kochberg - it was once the country seat of Goethe's beloved Frau von Stein. Through a picturesque valley, past the romantic Weitersdorf chapel, it continues via Teichweiden to Rudolstadt. Here lies another highlight of the route - the Heidecksburg. A tour through the baroque castle and a view over the city are worthwhile. Via one of the castle entrances, the route leads towards the marketplace and town hall. Then follows the attractive Heinrich-Heine-Park and the open-air museum "Thuringian Farmhouses". Along the Saale, the route finally leads back to the starting point.
