Located around 35 km south of Weimarer, the moated castle was built around 1600 in the Renaissance style. In 1733, Kochberg became the property of the Barons of Stein, who used it as a country estate and had several renovations carried out. Charlotte von Stein and her eldest son Carl turned Kochberg Castle into an artistic and social center in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The manor, castle and park have been almost completely preserved. The museum in the castle commemorates Goethe's visits to his closest friend and confidante during his early years in Weimar. The poet was a regular guest here between 1775 and 1788. Charlotte von Stein and her eldest son Carl guide visitors through the rooms, which are furnished with original furniture and works of art, with the help of the audio guide. They talk about their family history and Goethe's stays, of which manuscripts and works of art also bear witness. The most valuable piece of furniture in the room where the poet is said to have lived is the writing cabinet: Goethe immortalized his visits in ink on the tabletop. Under the title "Here I sit on your canapee", the two listening stations in the museum's ballroom invite visitors to listen to Goethe's love letters to Charlotte von Stein. The actor Jürg Wisbach reads a selection from the more than 1,700 letters and notes that Goethe wrote to his great love in the first decade of Weimar. The tour is complemented on the first floor by an exhibition on the history of the house and the estate, as well as the lovers' theater. The private theater built around 1800 by Carl von Stein, the so-called "Liebhabertheater", with its 75 seats, is a unique gem in the world. Every summer from May to October, top-class opera and theater performances, concerts and readings take place on its stage in a historic setting, attracting visitors from all over the world. The garden festival "Kochberger Gartenvergnügen" takes place every May. Photography in special exhibitions and the use of flash, additional light and tripods is prohibited.

En mai de chaque année a lieu le festival de jardinage "Kochberger Gartenvergnügen". Ten położony około 35 km na południe od Weimaru zamek otoczony wodą został zbudowany około 1600 roku w stylu renesansowym. W 1733 roku Kochberg przeszedł w posiadanie baronów von Stein, którzy wykorzystywali go jako posiadłość wiejską i zlecili przeprowadzenie kilku przebudów. Charlotte von Stein i jej najstarszy syn Carl uczynili zamek Kochberg w późnym XVIII i wczesnym XIX wieku centrum życia artystycznego i towarzyskiego. Posiadłość rycerska wraz z zamkiem i parkiem zachowała się niemal w całości. Muzeum w zamku przypomina o wizytach Goethego u jego najbliższej przyjaciółki i powiernicy z pierwszych lat pobytu w Weimarze. W latach 1775–1788 poeta bywał tu regularnie. Charlotte von Stein i jej najstarszy syn Carl oprowadzają po pomieszczeniach wyposażonych w oryginalne meble i dzieła sztuki, korzystając z audioprzewodnika. Opowiadają o historii swojej rodziny i pobytach Goethego, o których świadczą również rękopisy i dzieła malarskie. W pokoju, w którym podobno mieszkał poeta, jako najcenniejszy mebel można obejrzeć sekretarzyk: na blacie Goethe uwiecznił swoje wizyty atramentem. Pod tytułem „Hier sitz ich auf deinem Canapee” (Tutaj siedzę na twojej kanapie) dwie stacje odsłuchowe w sali balowej muzeum zapraszają do wysłuchania listów miłosnych Goethego do Charlotte von Stein. Aktor Jürg Wisbach czyta wybrane fragmenty z ponad 1700 listów i notatek, które Goethe napisał do swojej wielkiej miłości z pierwszej dekady pobytu w Weimarze. Zwiedzanie uzupełnia na parterze wystawa poświęcona historii domu i majątku ziemskiego, a także teatrowi amatorskiemu. Unikalnym na skalę światową klejnotem jest prywatny teatr, tzw. „Liebhabertheater”, zbudowany około 1800 roku przez Carla von Steina, który może pomieścić 75 osób. Na jego scenie każdego lata, od maja do października, w historycznej atmosferze odbywają się wysokiej klasy przedstawienia operowe i teatralne, koncerty oraz odczyty, na które przybywają goście z całego świata. W maju każdego roku odbywa się festiwal ogrodniczy „Kochberger Gartenvergnügen”. Wystawy specjalne oraz używanie lampy błyskowej, dodatkowego oświetlenia i statywu są zabronione.

Das etwa 35 km südlich von Weimarer gelegene Wasserschloss wurde um 1600 im Stil der Renaissance erbaut. 1733 ging Kochberg in den Besitz der Freiherren von Stein über, die es als Landsitz nutzten und einige Umbauten durchführen ließen. Charlotte von Stein und ihr ältester Sohn Carl machten Schloss Kochberg im späten 18. und frühen 19. Jahrhundert zu einem musischen und geselligen Zentrum. Das Rittergut mit Schloss und Park ist fast vollständig erhalten. Das Museum im Schloss erinnert an Goethes Besuche bei seiner engsten Freundin und Vertrauten der ersten Weimarer Jahre. Zwischen 1775 und 1788 war der Dichter hier regelmäßig zu Gast. Durch die mit originalen Möbeln und Kunstgegenständen ausgestatteten Räume führen Charlotte von Stein und ihr ältester Sohn Carl mithilfe des Audioguides. Sie erzählen von ihrer Familiengeschichte und Goethes Aufenthalten, von denen ebenso Handschriften und Bildwerke zeugen. In dem Zimmer, in dem der Dichter gewohnt haben soll, ist als wertvollstes Möbelstück der Schreibschrank zu sehen: Auf der Tischplatte hat Goethe seine Besuche mit Tinte verewigt. Unter dem Titel „Hier sitz ich auf deinem Canapee“ laden die beiden Hörstationen im Festsaal des Museums ein, Goethes Liebesbriefen an Charlotte von Stein zu lauschen. Der Schauspieler Jürg Wisbach liest eine Auswahl aus den über 1.700 Briefen bzw. Zettelchen, die Goethe an seine große Liebe des ersten Weimarer Jahrzehnts schrieb. Den Rundgang ergänzt im Erdgeschoss eine Ausstellung zur Geschichte des Hauses und der Gutsherrschaft sowie zum Liebhabertheater. Ein weltweit einzigartiges Kleinod ist das um 1800 von Carl von Stein erbaute Privattheater, das sogenannte „Liebhabertheater“, mit seinen 75 Sitzplätzen. Auf dessen Bühne finden heute in jedem Sommer von Mai bis Oktober in historischem Ambiente hochkarätige Opern- und Theateraufführungen, Konzerte und Lesungen statt, zu denen Besucher aus aller Welt anreisen. Im Mai jeden Jahres findet das Gartenfestival „Kochberger Gartenvergnügen“ statt. Das Fotografieren in Sonderausstellungen und die Verwendung von Blitz, Zusatzlicht und Stativ ist untersagt.
