Scheibe-Alsbach liegt in einem breiten Talkessel im Naturpark Thüringer Wald. Seine Umgebung besticht vor allem durch verschiedene Naturschutzgebiete in einer fast unberührten Natur, mit einer Kombination aus Wasser und Wald. Die Talsperre selbst gilt als eine der saubersten in der Region und ist ein versteckter Erholungsort auf etwa 752 Metern Höhe, eingebettet in dichte Wälder. Um den See führt ein flacher Rundweg - ideal für entspannte Spaziergänge. Da es sich um ein Trinkwasserschutzgebiet handelt, ist das Baden jedoch untersagt. Der Rundweg tangiert die Fernwanderwege Goldpfad und Panoramaweg Schwarzatal sowie die Rennsteigleiter aus Goldisthal, die hinauf zum bekannten Höhenwanderweg Rennsteig führt. Die 23 Meter hohe Staumauer wurde zwischen 1936 und 1944 errichtet.

Scheibe-Alsbach lies in a broad valley basin in the Thuringian Forest Nature Park. Its surroundings are especially impressive due to various nature reserves in an almost untouched natural environment, with a combination of water and forest. The dam itself is considered one of the cleanest in the region and is a hidden recreational spot at about 752 meters altitude, nestled in dense forests. A flat circular path leads around the lake - ideal for relaxed walks. However, since it is a drinking water protection area, swimming is prohibited. The circular path touches the long-distance hiking trails Goldpfad and Panoramaweg Schwarzatal as well as the Rennsteigleiter from Goldisthal, which leads up to the well-known Rennsteig high-altitude hiking trail. The 23-meter-high dam was constructed between 1936 and 1944.
