About: Château d'eau de Schkölen, Schkölen moated castle, Wasserburg Schkölen

Um 900 wurde auf dem Gelände einer ehemaligen slawischen Siedlung die erste Burganlage errichtet. Sie diente vermutlich als Vorposten der Königspfalz Dornburg. In den folgenden Jahrhunderten erfolgten Umbauten und Erweiterungen. Die heute sichtbaren Außenmauern mit den vier Türmen stammen aus dem 16. Jahrhundert. In der Folgezeit verlor die Burganlage ihre Bedeutung. Ab 1977 begannen engagierte Schkölener die Wasserburg freizulegen. Danach erfolgten umfangreiche Ausgrabungen, bei denen Fundamente weiterer Gebäude sowie gut erhaltene Gewölbekeller freigelegt wurden. Die heutige Zugbrücke mit Haspelwerk entstand im Zuge aufwendiger Restaurierungsarbeiten. In einem der Gebäude befindet sich ein Café mit einem 17 m langen, gemalten Wandfries zur Geschichte Schkölens.

Around 900, the first castle complex was built on the site of a former Slavic settlement. It probably served as an outpost of the royal palatinate of Dornburg. In the following centuries, the castle was rebuilt and extended. The outer walls visible today with the four towers date back to the 16th century. In the following period, the castle lost its importance. In 1977, committed Schkölen citizens began to uncover the moated castle. This was followed by extensive excavations, which uncovered the foundations of further buildings as well as well-preserved vaulted cellars. Today's drawbridge with reel mechanism was built in the course of extensive restoration work. In one of the buildings there is a café with a 17 m long painted wall frieze on the history of Schkölen.

L'un des bâtiments abrite un café avec une frise murale peinte de 17 mètres de long sur l'histoire de Schkölen.
