In the heart of Jena, the city of science and light, stands a theater whose influence extends far beyond the region. Theaterhaus Jena is one of the most exciting stages in the German-speaking world and is considered a unique institution. For over 30 years, new aesthetic forms of expression and innovative formats have been created here in a collective process. The theater stands for democratic working methods and combines political and entertaining theater – for the people of Jena and for guests from near and far. A diverse ensemble, collaboration with authors and artists in residence, international co-productions, play development, and a wide range of discourse programs shape its profile. Artistic and technical teams work on an equal footing and develop the theater house anew every day in a constant exchange. The Theaterhaus Jena was awarded the Federal Theater Prize in 2024 for its artistic work. The theater is also breaking new ground with its "open call" principle: two productions per season are awarded to anonymously selected teams – a concept that brings fresh perspectives and surprising styles to the stage.
