Like a Romanesque residential tower, the double chapel "Sanctae Crucis" today towers lonely over Landsberg. Once the castle chapel of the residential castle of the margraves of the Saxon Ostmark, today it is the most striking witness to Landsberg's medieval history. The former castle chapel belongs to the type of Romanesque double chapels described by Oskar Schürer in his 1929 monograph "Romanische Doppelkapellen". It is one of the largest surviving double chapels and is described as a particularly noble structure. Experts put it on a par with or even ahead of the imperial double chapels in the castles of Nuremberg and Eger. Today, the Landsberg double chapel is used in a variety of ways. Informative guided tours on the history of the mountain and castle by employees of the Landsberg Museum "Bernhard Brühl", which are extended to guided tours of the town several times a year, give visitors a vivid picture of the former size and importance of the site. The double chapel also provides a charming backdrop for atmospheric concerts and readings. The Protestant congregation of the Landsberg town church "St. Nicolai" meets monthly from June to September for services in the Romanesque double chapel. Baptisms, confirmations and weddings are also performed by the Landsberg Protestant parish office in the double chapel. In heutiger Zeit erfährt die Landsberger Doppelkapelle eine abwechslungsreiche und vielfältige Nutzung. Informative Führungen zur Berg- und Burggeschichte durch Mitarbeiter des Landsberger Museums "Bernhard Brühl", die mehrmals jährlich zu Stadtführungen erweitert werden, geben dem Besucher ein plastisches Bild von der einstigen Größe und Bedeutung des Ortes. Die Doppelkapelle bietet darüber hinaus die reizvolle Kulisse für stimmungsvolle Konzerte und Lesungen. Die evangelische Gemeinde der Landsberger Stadtkirche "St. Nicolai" trifft sich von Juni bis September monatlich zu Gottesdiensten in der romanischen Doppelkapelle. Auch Taufen, Konfirmationen und Trauungen werden vom evangelischen Pfarramt Landsberg in der Doppelkapelle vollzogen. Das Landsberger Standesamt bietet, neben weiteren repräsentativen Gebäuden für Hochzeiten, auch Trauungen in der Doppelkapelle an.
