Friedrich Wilhelm August Froebel (1782-1852) recognized play as a typical child's way of life and an important means of education. He began to develop a variety of play materials that challenge the child to construct and experiment, thus stimulating his imagination, training concentration and at the same time promoting social relationships. In 1839, he put his pedagogical concept into practice in the building of today's museum and invented the name "kindergarten". The exhibition presents his life, his pedagogical program and the history of the impact of his pedagogy with original exhibits in an authentic location. The Friedrich-Fröbel-Museum brings the beginnings of the kindergarten to life. In 1840, the kindergarten was born in the "house above the cellar" in Bad Blankenburg. It was there that Friedrich Wilhelm Fröbel began to practice his program for early childhood education and upbringing in 1839.

Das Friedrich-Fröbel-Museum lässt die Anfänge des Kindergartens lebendig werden. 1840 schlug die Geburtsstunde des Kindergartens im "Haus über dem Keller" in Bad Blankenburg. Dort begann Friedrich Wilhelm Fröbel 1839 sein Programm zur frühkindlichen Bildung und Erziehung zu praktizieren.
