Was die Burgruine Ebersburg besonders macht:

What makes the Ebersburg castle ruins so special:
These ruins, over 800 years old, are situated on a porphyry cone on the southern edge of the Harz Mountains and are dominated by their
imposing castle tower, which still stands over 18 meters tall today and has walls 4.75 meters thick.
Landgrave Hermann I of Thuringia had Ebersburg built between 1180 and 1191 to demonstrate his power. It was
the northernmost fortification of the Thuringian Empire.
Today, the complex is likely the only castle ruin in Germany that has been preserved as a complete ensemble from the
Staufer castle-building period, built entirely in the Romanesque style.
The view from here across to the
Kyffhäuser Monumentis also very impressive. It commemorates Emperor Wilhelm I and draws on the legend of Emperor Frederick Barbarossa, who, according to legend, sleeps in the depths of the mountain.
