Le village est également un point de départ apprécié pour des excursions vers le Dolmar, le monastère de Veßra ou la source de la Werra.

The village is located on the southern slope of the Dolmar, an extinct volcano, which is one of the highest mountains in the Rhön. Utendorf has about 500 inhabitants and an area of 4.5 km². The history of the village dates back to the 9th century, when it was first mentioned in a document. Utendorf was agricultural for a long time and belonged to the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen. Today, the village is best known for its proximity to the Thuringian Rhön Nature Park and the Rhön Biosphere Reserve. Utendorf offers its visitors numerous hiking and biking trails, a camping site and a restaurant with regional cuisine. The place is also a popular starting point for excursions to the Dolmar, the Veßra Monastery or the Werra Spring.

Die Geschichte des Ortes reicht bis ins 9. Jahrhundert zurück, als er erstmals urkundlich erwähnt wurde. Utendorf war lange Zeit landwirtschaftlich geprägt und gehörte zum Herzogtum Sachsen-Meiningen. Heute ist der Ort vor allem durch seine Nähe zum Naturpark Thüringer Rhön und zum Biosphärenreservat Rhön bekannt. Utendorf bietet seinen Besuchern zahlreiche Wander- und Radwege, einen Campingplatz und eine Gaststätte mit regionaler Küche. Der Ort ist auch ein beliebter Ausgangspunkt für Ausflüge zum Dolmar, zum Kloster Veßra oder zur Werraquelle.
