En 1227, Schillingstedt est mentionné pour la première fois dans un document sous le nom de "Silgenstadt". Au cours de l'histoire, le village a appartenu à différents manoirs. Le moulin à vent en bois, construit en 1840 et restauré pour la dernière fois en 1992, se dresse à l'extrémité est du village, sur les crêtes des rivières Schmücke et Finne. Chaque année, le lundi de Pentecôte, à l'occasion de la Journée allemande des moulins, a lieu la fête des moulins, organisée conjointement par les associations locales et qui attire de nombreux visiteurs. L'église de Saint-André est un autre bâtiment remarquable de Schillingstedt. Après de nombreuses modifications, seul l'arc roman entre le chœur et l'église indique encore le style architectural roman d'origine de l'église, qui a été consacrée en 1498. Les amis tracteurs, la communauté des chanteurs, l'association du carnaval et les pompiers contribuent également à la vie locale avec ses événements tels que le traditionnel feu de Pâques ou les concerts de la chorale. Avec son incorporation en 2018, Schillingstedt est le plus jeune district de Sömmerda.

In 1227 Schillingstedt was first mentioned in a document as "Silgenstadt". In the course of history, the village belonged to various manors. The wooden windmill, which was built in 1840 and last restored in 1992, towers high on the eastern edge of the village on the ridges of the Schmücke and Finne rivers. The mill festival is held here every year on Whit Monday on the occasion of the German Mill Day, which is organised jointly by the local associations and attracts many visitors. Another striking building in Schillingstedt is the church of St. Andrew. After numerous alterations, only the Romanesque arch between the chancel and the church still points to the original Romanesque architectural style of the church, which was consecrated in 1498. The tractor friends, the singing community, the carnival association and the fire brigade also contribute to the local life with its events such as the traditional fire at Easter or choir concerts. With the incorporation in 2018, Schillingstedt is the youngest district of Sömmerda.

Im Jahr 1227 wurde Schillingstedt als "Silgenstadt" erstmals urkundlich erwähnt. Im Verlaufe der Geschichte gehörte der Ort zu verschiedenen Herrschaftshäusern. An den Höhenzügen von Schmücke und Finne gelegen, ragt am östlichen Ortsrand an höchster Stelle die 1840 errichtete und zuletzt 1992 restaurierte hölzerne Bockwindmühle in die Höhe. Hier findet jährlich am Pfingstmontag zum Deutschen Mühlentag das Mühlenfest statt, das die ortsansässigen Vereine gemeinsam ausrichten und das viele Besucher anzieht. Ein weiteres markantes Bauwerk in Schillingstedt ist die Sankt Andreas Kirche. Auf den ursprünglich romanischen Baustil deutet in der 1498 eingeweihten Kirche nach zahlreichen Umbauten heute nur noch der romanische Bogen zwischen Altarraum und Kirche hin. Das Ortsleben, auch mit seinen Veranstaltungen wie etwa dem Traditionsfeuer zu Ostern oder Chorkonzerten, gestalten die Traktorfreunde, die Singgemeinschaft, der Carnevalsverein und die Feuerwehr mit. Mit der Eingemeindung im Jahr 2018 ist Schillingstedt der jüngste Sömmerdaer Ortsteil.
