Ballstädt est mentionné pour la première fois dans un document officiel en 977. Différents incendies ont modifié l'aspect de la localité au fil du temps. Plusieurs moulins à eau, aujourd'hui transformés en maisons d'habitation, sont situés sur la petite rivière Tonna, qui prend sa source à Ballstädt. Le domaine de Bittergut, conservé jusqu'à aujourd'hui, a marqué le paysage local pendant plusieurs siècles. La famille noble des seigneurs de Ballstädt a dominé le village de 1200 à 1500. Par la suite, la propriété a changé de mains à plusieurs reprises. L'église St. Petri, construite en 1477, marque l'image du village. En 1625, pendant la guerre de Trente Ans, plus de 300 habitants du village moururent des suites de la peste. Suite à des vols, des dévastations et des incendies, il ne restait plus que 54 maisons sur les 129 d'origine en 1638. Une curiosité particulière du village est le moulin à vent de Breithaupt, qui a déjà figuré sur un timbre-poste. Le moulin à vent a été construit en 1884 à Eggersdorf près de Schönebeck (Saxe-Anhalt) et a été déplacé ici en 1935. Ce rare monument technique est encore en parfait état de fonctionnement et fait l'objet d'une démonstration de rotation des ailes chaque dernier samedi du mois pendant les mois d'été. De la sortie nord-est du village, en passant par l'Obermühle et le Hopfenberg, on peut se promener dans le Ballstädter Holz jusqu'au Blütengrund. L'auberge "Fahnersche Höhe", ouverte en 1975, est un centre culturel très apprécié dans le village. La commune de Ballstädt, qui compte environ 790 habitants, dispose d'une zone industrielle de taille moyenne, qui peut être agrandie à tout moment, et d'une zone résidentielle qui dispose encore de (plus de) terrains à bâtir libres.

Ballstädt was first mentioned in a document in 977. Various fires have changed the appearance of the town in the course of time. Several water mills, now converted into residential buildings, are located on the Tonna River, which has its headwaters in Ballstädt. The Bittergut, which has been preserved to this day, shaped the appearance of the village for several centuries. The noble family of the Lords of Ballstädt ruled the village from 1200 to 1500. Later, the estate changed hands many times. The church of St. Petri, built in 1477, dominates the village. In 1625, during the Thirty Years' War, over 300 inhabitants of the village died as a result of the plague. As a result of robbery, devastation and fires, only 54 of the original 129 houses were still standing in 1638. A special sight of the village is the Breithaupt windmill, which has already been a motif on a postage stamp. The windmill was built in Eggersdorf near Schönebeck (Saxony-Anhalt) in 1884 and moved here in 1935. This rare technical monument is still fully functional and is demonstrated with rotating blades on the last Saturday of every month during the summer months. From the northeastern exit of the village past the Obermühle over the Hopfenberg you can hike into the Ballstädter Holz to the Blütengrund. A popular cultural center in the village is the restaurant "Fahnersche Höhe", which was opened in 1975. Urkundlich belegbar wurde Ballstädt im Jahre 977 erstmals erwähnt. Verschiedene Feuerbrünste haben im Verlauf das Ortsbild verändert. Mehrere heute als Wohnhäuser umgebaute Wassermühlen liegen am Flüsschen Tonna, welches sein Quellgebiet in Ballstädt hat. Das bis heute erhaltene Bittergut prägte mehrere Jahrhunderte das Ortsbild. Das Adelsgeschlecht der Herren von Ballstädt beherrschte 1200 bis 1500 den Ort. Später wechselte der Besitz des Öfteren seine Herrschaft. Die 1477 erbaute Kirche St. Petri prägt das Dorfbild. Im Dreißigjährigen Krieg starben 1625 über 300 Einwohner des Ortes an den Folgen der Pest. Infolge von Raub, Verwüstung und Bränden standen 1638 von ursprünglich 129 Häusern nur noch 54. Eine besondere Sehenswürdigkeit des Dorfes ist die Breithauptsche Bockwindmühle, die bereits als Motiv auf einer Briefmarke zu sehen war. Die Windmühle wurde 1884 in Eggersdorf bei Schönebeck (Sachsen-Anhalt) gebaut und 1935 nach hier umgesetzt. Dieses seltene technische Denkmal ist noch voll funktionsfähig und wird in den Sommermonaten an jedem letzten Samstag im Monat mit drehenden Flügeln vorgeführt. Vom nordöstlichen Ortsausgang an der Obermühle vorbei über den Hopfenberg kann man in das Ballstädter Holz zum Blütengrund wandern. Ein beliebtes kulturelles Zentrum im Ort ist die Gaststätte "Fahnersche Höhe", die 1975 eröffnet wurde. Die rund 790 Einwohner zählende Gemeinde Ballstädt verfügt über ein mittleres Gewerbegebiet, welches jederzeit erweiterungsfähig ist, und über ein Wohngebiet, welches noch freie Bauplätze(mehr) hat.
