Auf Vorschlag von Ernst Kirste vom Rat des Kreises Altenburg am 1. Mai 1954 wurde er mit der hauptamtlichen Leitung des Naturkundlichen Museums Mauritianum in Altenburg beauftragt. Von seinem Vater übernahm er zum 1. Januar 1970 die Funktion des Naturschutzbeauftragten für den Kreis Altenburg.

On the suggestion of Ernst Kirste of the council of the district of Altenburg on 1 May 1954, he was entrusted with the full-time management of the Mauritianum Natural History Museum in Altenburg. From his father he took over the function of the nature conservation officer for the district of Altenburg on January 1, 1970.
