Heichelheim est un petit village idyllique situé au cœur de la commune d'Am Ettersberg. Il ne compte que 320 habitants, mais jouit d'une grande notoriété. La première mention sûre de ce village en cul-de-sac remonte à 1123, dans un document de l'archevêque Adelbert de Mayence pour le couvent de Marie d'Erfurt. Le nom a évolué de Huningleiba à l'actuel Heichelheim, interprété comme la propriété de Hugo. L'église St. Bonifatius date du 12ème siècle et se trouve au-dessus du village. Elle est classée monument historique. Sur le mur de l'église, à côté de la porte d'entrée, on trouve des plaques commémoratives pour Le moulin à vent construit en 1829 et le lac artificiel de Heichelheim sont des destinations d'excursion très appréciées dans la région du nord du Weimarland. Heichelheim est souvent appelé le "village de la pomme de terre", car c'est de là que proviennent les pommes de terre et les quenelles de Heichelheim, connues dans toute l'Allemagne. Le "Thüringer Kloßwelt", avec ses musées associés, son magasin d'usine et son offre gastronomique, attire chaque jour de nombreux visiteurs de près et de loin. Deux fois par an, des personnalités du monde politique, culturel et économique se réunissent à Heichelheim pour planter des pommes de terre au printemps et les récolter en automne. Les écoles et les jardins d'enfants sont associés à cette manifestation afin de sensibiliser les jeunes à l'importance de la pomme de terre locale.

Heichelheim is a small, idyllically situated village in the heart of the municipality of Am Ettersberg with only 320 inhabitants, but is very well known. The first confirmed mention of the cul-de-sac village was in 1123 in a document issued by Archbishop Adelbert of Mainz for the Marienstift monastery in Erfurt. The name changed from Huningleiba to today's Heichelheim, interpreted as Hugo's property. The church of St. Boniface dates back to the 12th century and is located above the village. It is a listed building. On the church wall, next to the entrance door, there are commemorative plaques for The windmill built in 1829 and the Heichelheim reservoir are popular excursion destinations in the northern Weimarer Land region. Heichelheim is often referred to as the "potato village", as this is where the nationally famous Heichelheim potatoes and Heichelheim dumplings come from. The "Thuringian Dumpling World" with its associated museums, factory outlet and gastronomic offerings attracts numerous visitors from near and far every day. Twice a year, prominent figures from politics, culture and business meet in Heichelheim to plant potatoes in the spring and harvest them in the fall. Schools and kindergartens are involved in this event in order to give young people an understanding of the importance of the local potato.

Heichelheim ist ein kleines, idyllisch gelegenes Dorf im Herzen der Gemeinde Am Ettersberg mit nur 320 Einwohnern, aber einem hohen Bekanntheitsgrad. Die erste gesicherte Erwähnung des Sackgassendorfes erfolgte 1123 in einer Urkunde des Erzbischofs Adelbert von Mainz für das Erfurter Marienstift. Der Name wandelte sich von Huningleiba zum heutigen Heichelheim, gedeutet als Hugos Eigentum. Die Kirche St. Bonifatius stammt aus dem 12. Jahrhundert und liegt oberhalb des Ortes. Sie steht unter Denkmalschutz. An der Kirchenwand, neben der Eingangstür, finden sich Erinnerungstafeln für Die 1829 erbaute Windmühle und der Stausee von Heichelheim sind beliebte Ausflugsziele der Region des nördlichen Weimarer Landes. Heichelheim wird oft als das „Kartoffeldorf“ bezeichnet, denn von hier kommen die bundesweit bekannten Heichelheimer Kartoffeln und die Heichelheimer Klöße. Die „Thüringer Kloßwelt“ mit seinem angeschlossenen Museen, dem Werksverkauf und seinem gastronomischen Angebot lockt täglich zahlreiche Besuche aus nah und fern an. Zweimal im Jahr treffen sich in Heichelheim Prominente aus der Politik, Kultur und Wirtschaft, um im Frühjahr Kartoffeln zu legen und im Herbst die Kartoffeln zu ernten. Eingebunden in diese Veranstaltung sind Schulen und Kindergärten, um der Jugend der Stellenwert der heimischen Kartoffel näher zu bringen.
