About: Stadtilm

In an old Stadtilmer saying it says: "Gallus, anas, pons et turris, draco, fossa, suile, sunt Ilmi - septem, commemoranda poli." In German: "Cock, duck, bridge and tower, dragon, moat, pigsty are the seven wonders of Stadtilm." Unfortunately, it has not completely survived to which wonders the saying referred in detail and so, although the seven wonders have survived over time, the rooster, the tower and the dragon have been replaced by the market, the monastery lime tree and the crypt. Two of the wonders, the highest bridge and the monastery lime tree, are no longer visible today. In short, we would like to invite you to a "Seven Wonders Tour" through Stadtilm, which we will start at the town hall. In 1275 Günther IX, Count of Schwarzburg, moved the Cistercian nunnery founded in Saalfeld in 1267 to Stadtilm. Since that time, the building has undergone frequent changes of use. In 1492 the convent was partially destroyed by fire. The subsequent reconstruction and rebuilding extended into the 16th century. In the great town fire of 1780 it was repeatedly severely damaged. This was followed by its conversion into a castle inn. In 1918 the town fathers acquired the building and since 1920 it has been the seat of the town administration. A Gothic cross-vaulted room, the so-called crypt (today's library) and a stone oven-air heating system in a vault under the east wing have been preserved from the monastery period. The monastery lime tree, which is at least 500 years old. According to other sources, the monastery lime tree (also called the castle lime tree) is said to have been 600, 700, even 800 years old. In January 1937 it had a circumference (at a height of 1.60 metres) of 7.20 metres. In 1938 it had to be felled. The "largest interest floor of Thuringia" was the storage building of the Cistercian nunnery (today's town hall). After its economic upswing, the construction of the Zinsboden was started around 1350 as a storehouse for the taxes in kind. In former times the Zinsboden was also called the "largest pigsty of Thuringia", this name goes back to the interest pigs delivered annually at that time, which were accommodated in the basement of the building. In 1890 a part of the Zinsboden was furnished as a prison, which was used until approx. 1945. After the Second World War, living quarters were set up in the lower area. Later, the Zinsboden was used as a grain store, as it had been in the past. Only separated from the market place by a row of houses, the town church "Sankt Marien" rises with its west tower, which is rare in Thuringia. The double tower with bridge (396 m above sea level) between the 42 m high towers was a remarkable feature, which has been preserved as a landmark of Stadtilm in the town's coat of arms. The bridge was demolished in 1903. The market place of Stadtilm, with an area of about 10,170 m², is considered the largest market place in Thuringia. Before it was paved in 1834, it consisted of a single marshy area. Still today one can marvel at the Methfessel monument, inaugurated in 1885, in the center of which is an obelisk dedicated to the composer Albert Methfessel, who was born in Stadtilm. On the site of the building, which today houses the branch of the Sparkasse Arnstadt-Ilmenau, stood until 1966 the Hotel zum Hirsch, where Johann Wolfgang von Goethe often stayed on his trips to Ilmenau. It was in Stadtilm that Goethe wrote his verse "Ich ging im Walde so für mich hin...", the poem he dedicated to his wife Christiane on the 25th anniversary of their life together, which became world famous under the title "Gefunden". The "highest swimming duck." The duck is, of course, not a real duck, but a relief that serves as a water level marker commemorating the Thuringian Flood of 1613. The relief was originally located at the cellar gate, next to the inn "Zur Ente", at a height of more than 2 m. Later it was moved to the opposite inn. Later it came to the opposite inn "Zum Bären", where the relief plate was smashed by carelessness on 06.08.1968 during the demolition of the inn. After its restoration, it was ceremoniously unveiled in the local history museum in 1993. In 2016, the relief was moved back to its original place. Since 1302, the city centre with an area of 375 x 500 m has been walled by the city wall, consisting of about 35 half towers at a distance of 22 metres (which overhang the city wall by 2.50 m). As the upper end of the wall there was an uncovered battlements (for the guards). Large parts of the southern and northern city walls can still be seen today.

Malheureusement, il n'a pas été complètement transmis à quels miracles le dicton faisait référence en détail et donc, bien que les sept miracles aient été préservés au fil du temps, le coq, la tour et le dragon ont été remplacés par le marché, le tilleul du monastère et la crypte. Deux de ces merveilles, le pont le plus haut et le tilleul du monastère, ne sont plus visibles aujourd'hui. A l'extrémité supérieure du mur se trouvait un créneau non couvert (pour les gardes). De grandes parties des murs sud et nord de la ville sont encore visibles aujourd'hui.

In einem alten Stadtilmer Spruch heißt es: „Gallus, anas, pons et turris, draco, fossa, suile, sunt Ilmi - septem, commemoranda poli.“ Zu deutsch: „Hahn, Ente, Brücke und Turm, Drache, Graben, Schweinestall sind die sieben Wunder Stadtilms.“ Leider ist nicht komplett überliefert, auf welche Wunder sich der Spruch im Einzelnen bezog und so sind zwar im Laufe der Zeit die sieben Wunder erhalten geblieben, jedoch wurde der Hahn, der Turm und der Drache durch den Markt, die Klosterlinde und die Krypta ersetzt. Zwei der Wunder, die höchste Brücke und die Klosterlinde, sind heute nicht mehr zu sehen. Wir laden zu einer „Sieben-Wunder-Tour“ durch Stadtilm ein, die wir am Rathaus beginnen. 1275 wurde durch Günther den IX, Graf von Schwarzburg, das 1267 in Saalfeld gestiftete Zisterzienser-Nonnenkloster nach Stadtilm verlegt. 1492 wurde das Kloster durch einen Brand teilweise zerstört. Der nachfolgende Wiederauf- und Umbau erstreckte sich bis ins 16. Jh. Beim großen Stadtbrand 1780 wurde es schwer beschädigt. Es folgte der Umbau zum Schlossgasthof. 1918 erwarben die Stadtväter das Gebäude, seit 1920 ist hier der Sitz der Stadtverwaltung. Aus der Klosterzeit ist ein gotischer Kreuzgewölbe-Raum, die sogenannte Krypta (heutige Bibliothek) und eine Steinofen-Luftheizung in einem Gewölbe unter dem Ostflügel erhalten. Die mindestens 500 Jahre alte Klosterlinde (Schlosslinde) soll sogar 600, 700 und 800 Jahre alt gewesen sein. 1937 hatte sie einen Umfang (in 1,60 m Höhe) von 7,20 m. 1938 musste sie gefällt werden. Der „Größte Zinsboden Thüringens“ war das Speichergebäude des Zisterzienser-Nonnenklosters (heutiges Rathaus). Nach dessen wirtschaftlichem Aufschwung wurde um 1350 mit dem Bau des Zinsbodens als Vorratslager für die Naturalabgaben begonnen. Früher wurde der Zinsboden als „Größter Schweinestall Thüringens“ bezeichnet; dieser Name geht auf die damals jährlich abgelieferten Zinsschweine zurück, welche im Untergeschoss des Gebäudes untergebracht wurden. 1890 wurde ein Teil des Zinsbodens als Gefängnis eingerichtet, welches bis ca. 1945 genutzt wurde. Nach dem II. Weltkrieg richtete man im unteren Bereich einen Wohnraum ein. Später wurde der Zinsboden als Getreidelager genutzt. Die Stadtkirche St. Marien hat eine in Thüringen seltene Westturmanlage. Die Doppelturmanlage mit Brücke (396 m ü. M.) zwischen den 42 m hohen Türmen war eine Besonderheit, die als Wahrzeichen im Stadtwappen erhalten blieb. Die Brücke wurde 1903 abgerissen. Der Stadtilmer Marktplatz gilt mit einer Fläche von ca. 10.170 m² als größter Marktplatz Thüringens. Vor seiner Pflasterung im Jahr 1834 bestand dieser aus einem Sumpfgelände. Man kann hier das 1885 eingeweihte Methfessel-Denkmal, in dessen Zentrum ein Obelisk, der dem in Stadtilm geborenen Komponisten Albert Methfessel gewidmet ist, bestaunen. An der Stelle des Gebäudes, welches heute die Filiale der Sparkasse Arnstadt-Ilmenau beherbergt, stand bis 1966 das Hotel zum Hirsch, in dem auch Johann Wolfgang von Goethe verweilte. In Stadtilm entstanden Goethes Verse „Ich ging im Walde so für mich hin …“, das Gedicht, das unter dem Titel „Gefunden“ weltbekannt wurde. Die “höchstschwimmende Ente”. Bei der Ente handelt es sich um ein Relief, das als Wasserstandmarke an die Thüringer Sintflut von 1613 erinnert. Es befand sich ursprünglich am Kellertor, neben dem Gasthaus „Zur Ente“. Später kam es an das Gasthaus „Zum Bären“, wo die Reliefplatte am 06.08.1968 beim Abriss der Gaststätte durch Unachtsamkeit zerschlagen wurde. Nach ihrer Restaurierung wurde sie 1993 im Heimatmuseum feierlich enthüllt. Im Jahr 2016 wurde das Relief wieder an seinen Ursprungsplatz versetzt. Seit 1302 ist der Stadtkern von der Stadtmauer, bestehend aus ca. 35 Halbtürmen im Abstand von 22 Metern, ummauert. Als oberen Abschluss gab es einen unbedeckten Wehrgang (für die Wachen). Teile der südlichen und nördlichen Stadtmauer sind heute noch zu sehen.
