Kranichfeld est un lieu de nostalgie qui nous plonge dans une merveilleuse ambiance de calme et de sérénité. Les châteaux comme emblèmes Les emblèmes historiques de cette ville aux deux châteaux sont l'imposant château supérieur et le romantique château inférieur situé en face, avec sa cour de fauconnerie. Comme fortification contre les Slaves se trouvaient encore à Kranichfeld le Schleußenburg, l'Enzenburg et une installation sur la colline connue aujourd'hui sous le nom de "Neue Mahl". La série de fortifications et d'ouvrages de protection se poursuit à Tannroda et Berka, le long de l'Ilm. C'est l'un des plus anciens bâtiments de la ville et la maison natale du poète Rudolf Baumbach, qui a écrit les paroles de la chanson populaire "Hoch auf dem gelben Wagen". Chaque année, le 1er mai, c'est ici qu'a lieu la célèbre randonnée cycliste en étoile, qui part de différents points de départ et mène à Kranichfeld via la piste cyclable de la vallée de l'Ilm. Certains jours, l'ancienne remise de la maison Baumbach résonne d'une mélodie langoureuse. Les amateurs de tango s'y retrouvent alors pour une milonga jusqu'au soir.

Every year on May 1, this is the destination of the popular Sternradtour, which leads from various starting points along the Ilmtal cycle path to Kranichfeld. Die Zwei-Burgen-Stadt im grünen Ilmtal. Ehemals dienten Burgen und Befestigungsanlagen entlang der Ilm dem Schutz der Handelswege. Heute zeichnen sie das Porträt der Stadt Kranichfeld mitten im Ilmtal in Thüringen. Kranichfeld ist ein Sehnsuchtsort und versetzt uns in eine wunderbare Stimmung von Ruhe und Gelassenheit. Burgen als Wahrzeichen Die historischen Wahrzeichen der Zwei-Burgen-Stadt sind das mächtige Oberschloss und die gegenüberliegende romantische Niederburg mit Falknerhof. Als Befestigung gegen die Slawen standen in Kranichfeld noch die Schleußenburg, die Enzenburg und eine Anlage auf dem heute als „Neue Mahl“ bekannten Hügel. Die Reihe der befestigten und beschützenden Anlagen setzt sich in Tannroda und Berka entlang der Ilm fort. Kultur des Tanzes und der Rosen Besucherhighlights der Burgen sind die Konzerte auf der Freilichtbühne der Niederburg oder das jährliche Mittelalter-Spektakel auf dem Oberschloss. Doch besondere Beachtung sollte man den Rosen schenken, die die Menschen des Ortes in ihre Vorgärten pflanzen und die die Aufgänge zur Burg säumen. Jedes Jahr im Juni wird das Thüringer Tanz- und Rosenfest inklusive der Krönung der Rosenkönigin gefeiert. Ganz jung kommt die alte Niederburg mit den jährlichen Festivals daher. Hier ist Raum für Konzerte und Tanz mit junger unbeschwerter Musik. Das Sternenklang-Festival und das Black Lower Castle Festival laden ein, hier zu verweilen, zu campen und in Gemeinschaft die Sommerabende zu genießen. Museum und Co. Das Baumbachhaus mitten in der Stadt erzählt die Geschichte des Ortes, zeigt Ausstellungen regionaler Künstler, bietet Museumscafé und Kuchen und beherbergt die Tourist- Information. Es ist eines der ältesten Gebäude der Stadt und das Geburtshaus des Dichters Rudolf Baumbach, der den Text für das Volkslied “Hoch auf dem gelben Wagen” schrieb. Hier ist jedes Jahr am 1. Mai das Ziel der beliebten Sternradtour, welche von verschiedenen Startpunkten aus über den Ilmtal-Radweg nach Kranichfeld führt. An manchen Tagen erklingt aus der alten Remise des Baumbachhauses eine schmachtende Melodie. Dann treffen sich hier Tango-Tanzbegeisterte zu einer Milonga bis in die Abendstunden.
