Dans l'esprit de Johann Wolfgang von Goethe "Ce n'est que là où tu es allé à pied que tu as vraiment été", le parcours Goethe de 20 km entre Ilmenau et Stützerbach invite à une expérience active de la culture et de la nature. Le parcours Goethe a reçu en 2005, en tant que premier sentier en Thuringe, le label « sentier de qualité Wanderbares Deutschland ». Il est marqué par le « G », l'initiale du nom de Goethe, et relie les lieux d'activité de Goethe. Le parcours Goethe commence dans la maison de l'office sur le marché d'Ilmenau. Construite en 1616 par la comtesse Sophie von Henneberg comme résidence de veuve. Après l'incendie de la ville en 1752, le bâtiment fut reconstruit selon les plans de l'architecte baroque Gottfried Heinrich Krohne avec des bureaux pour l'officier de l'administration et des logements pour la famille ducale. Aujourd'hui, la maison abrite l'office de tourisme d'Ilmenau ainsi que le Musée de la ville de Goethe. En passant par Obertorstraße, on arrive au cimetière. Le parcours traverse la vieille ville haute, passe devant la maison de la mine, puis suit les berggrabenweg moyen et supérieur. Depuis le chemin vers la source Bertha et Schwalbenstein, de magnifiques vues sur la vallée de Manebach s'offrent. En passant par le Schöffehaus, on traverse Heidelberg, la source Marien et Emmastein. En descendant, on atteint Manebach et la maison du chantre. À Manebach, on franchit la vallée de l'Ilm et, au Kammerberg en face, commence la montée vers Helenenruhe et le Grand Hermannstein, en passant par la source Sophia. Ce tronçon est le plus raide de la randonnée mais récompense par une vue à couper le souffle depuis la roche.  Avec 861 m, on atteint également le point culminant de la randonnée : la cabane Goethe. Le 6 septembre 1780, Goethe écrivit à la paroi intérieure de la cabane de chasse de cette époque un de ses plus beaux poèmes - le Chant de la nuit du voyageur (Ein Gleiches; première édition de Cotta 1815) : Sur tous les sommets règne le calme, à peine un souffle se fait sentir dans les cimes ; les petits oiseaux se taisent dans la forêt. Attends seulement - bientôt tu te reposeras aussi. Il nota ce poème au crayon à l'intérieur de la cabane de chasse simple sur le Kickelhahn, qui lui servait de lieu de séjour. Ce n'est que 35 ans après sa création que le poète publia ces vers dans son œuvre. Les vers peuvent être lus dans la cabane Goethe accessible librement en 16 langues.  Ensuite, on atteint la tour Kickelhahn. L'ascension de 107 marches à la tour haute de 21 m est récompensée par une vue impressionnante sur la Forêt de Thuringe et la plaine environnante. Goethe appréciait déjà la beauté de la montagne et y séjourna souvent. Toutefois, la tour ne fut construite qu'en 1855. En descendant, on arrive au Musée Jagdhaus Gabelbach. C'est un simple bâtiment utilitaire rococo tardif, construit à l'été 1783 dans la hâte pour servir de maison d'hôtes au duc Carl August de Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach et à sa société de chasse. Le musée actuel donne un aperçu des habitudes de chasse, de la vie sociale de la cour de Weimar ainsi que des études naturalistes de Goethe. Plus bas, on atteint le Hôtel de montagne et de chasse Gabelbach, l'une des plus belles et meilleures maisons de la Forêt de Thuringe.  Après la prairie des bergers, le chemin descend par la route vers Neustadt dans la pittoresque vallée de Schorte jusqu'à l'étang Knöpfelstaler avec abri et au Finsteren Loch avec petite cascade.  En montant, après environ 20 minutes, on atteint la auberge historique « Auerhahn ». Son nom, comme celui du Kickelhahn, vient du grand tétras, autrefois indigène dans nos forêts. Par le parking de randonnée, on rejoint en descente Stützerbach avec la colline du château et la maison Gundelach, où se trouve le Musée Maison Goethe Stützerbach.

In the spirit of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe "Only where you have been on foot, you have truly been", the 20 km long Goethe hiking trail between Ilmenau and Stützerbach invites you. Its great appeal lies in the active experience of culture and nature. The Goethe hiking trail was the first path in Thuringia to receive the certificate "Quality Trail Walkable Germany" in 2005. It is marked by the "G", Goethe’s name initial, and connects the places Goethe worked. The Goethe hiking trail begins at the Amtshaus at the market in Ilmenau. In 1616, Countess Sophie of Henneberg had it built as a widow’s residence. After the city fire in 1752, the building was rebuilt according to plans by Baroque architect Gottfried Heinrich Krohne, with office rooms for the bailiff and living quarters for the ducal family. Today, the Amtshaus houses the Ilmenau information office as well as the Goethe City Museum.  Through Obertorstraße you reach the cemetery. The route leads through the upper old town past the mining house along the Middle and Upper Berggrabenweg. From the path to Bertha’s spring and Schwalbenstein, enchanting views open up into the Manebach valley. Past the Schöffenhaus, you pass via the Heidelberg, the Marian spring, and Emmasstein. Downhill you reach Manebach to the cantor’s house. In Manebach the Ilm valley is crossed and on the opposite Kammerberg the ascent begins to Helenenruhe and the Great Hermannstein passing by the Sophie spring. This section is the steepest of the hike and rewards with a breathtaking view from the rock.  At 861 m, you reach the highest point of the hike: The Goethehütte. On September 6, 1780, Goethe wrote on the inner wooden wall of this then hunting cabin one of his most beautiful poems - Wanderer's Nightsong (Ein Gleiches; first edition by Cotta 1815): Over all the peaks is peace, in all the treetops you hardly feel a breath; the little birds are silent in the woods. Just wait – soon you too will rest. He noted this poem with pencil on the inner wooden wall of a simple hunting hut on Kickelhahn, which he used as a retreat. Only 35 years after its creation did the poet publish these verses in his collected works. The verses can be read in 16 languages in the freely accessible Goethehütte.  After that, you reach the Kickelhahn Tower. The climb up 107 steps to the 21 m high tower is rewarded by a breathtaking view over the Thuringian Forest and the foreland. Even Goethe appreciated the beauty of the mountain and often stayed there. The tower, however, was only built in 1855. Downhill, you arrive at the Museum Hunting Lodge Gabelbach. It is a simple, late baroque functional building built hastily in summer 1783 to serve as a guesthouse for Duke Carl August of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach and his hunting party. Today’s museum offers insight into hunting habits, social life at the Weimar court, as well as Goethe’s scientific studies. Further downhill, you will reach the Mountain and Hunting Hotel Gabelbach, one of the most beautiful and finest houses in the Thuringian Forest.  After the Shepherd’s Meadow, the path leads over the country road down to Neustadt into the picturesque Schortetal valley to the Knöpfelstaler pond with shelter hut and to the Dark Hole with a small waterfall.  Uphill, after about 20 minutes, you reach the historic inn "Auerhahn". It was named after the capercaillie (Auerhahn), which once used to be native as the largest forest grouse in our woods, as well as probably the Kickelhahn. From the hiking parking lot, you reach downhill Stützerbach with the Schlossberg and the Gundelach House, which houses the Museum Goethehaus Stützerbach.

Ganz im Sinne Johann Wolfgang von Goethe "Nur wo du zu Fuß warst, bist du auch wirklich gewesen", lädt der 20 km lange Goethewanderweg zwischen Ilmenau und Stützerbach ein. Sein großer Reiz liegt im aktiven Erlebnis von Kultur und Natur. Der Goethewanderweg erhielt 2005 als erster Weg in Thüringen das Zertifikat „Qualitätsweg Wanderbares Deutschland". Er ist durch das „G", dem Namenskürzel Goethes, gekennzeichnet und verbindet die Wirkungsstätten Goethes. Der Goethewanderweg beginnt im Amtshaus am Markt in Ilmenau. 1616 ließ es Gräfin Sophie von Henneberg als Witwensitz erbauen. Nach dem Stadtbrand 1752 wurde das Gebäude nach den Plänen des Barockbaumeisters Gottfried Heinrich Krohne mit Diensträumen für den Amtmann und Wohnräume für die herzogliche Familie aufgebaut. Heute beherbergt das Amtshaus die Ilmenau-Information sowie das GoetheStadtMuseum.  Durch die Obertorstraße gelangt man zum Friedhof. Der Weg führt durch die obere Altstadt vorbei am Zechenhaus, auf den Mittleren und Oberen Berggrabenweg. Vom Weg zu Berthas Quelle und zum Schwalbenstein bieten sich zauberhafte Durchblicke ins Manebacher Tal. Vorbei am Schöffenhaus passiert man über den Heidelberg die Marienquelle und den Emmastein. Bergab gelangt man nach Manebach zum Haus des Kantors. In Manebach wird das Ilmtal durchquert und am gegenüberliegenden Kammerberg beginnt der Aufstieg zur Helenenruhe und zum Großen Hermannstein vorbei an der Sophienquelle. Dieses Wegstück ist das steilste der Wanderung und belohnt mit einem atemberaubenden Ausblick vom Felsen.  Mit 861 m erreicht man auch den Höhe(n)punkt der Wanderung: Das Goethehäuschen. Am 6. September 1780 schrieb Goethe an die innere Bretterwand der damaligen Jagdhütte eines seiner schönsten Gedichte - Wandrers Nachtlied (Ein Gleiches; Erstausgabe v. Cotta 1815): Über allen Gipfeln ist Ruh, in allen Wipfeln spürest du kaum einen Hauch; die Vögelein schweigen im Walde. Warte nur - balde ruhest du auch. Dieses Gedicht notierte er mit Bleistift an die innere Bretterwand einer schlichten Jagdhütte auf dem Kickelhahn, die ihm zum Aufenthalt diente. Erst 35 Jahre nach der Entstehung hat der Dichter diese Verse in seiner Werkausgabe veröffentlicht. Die Verse können in dem frei zugänglichen Goethehäuschen  in 16 Sprachen nachgelesen werden.  Danach erreicht man den Kickelhahnturm. Der Aufstieg über 107 Stufen auf den 21 m hohen Turm wird durch einen atemberaubenden Blick über den Thüringer Wald und das Vorland belohnt. Schon Goethe wusste die Schönheit des Berges zu schätzen und hielt sich dort oft auf. Der Turm wurde allerdings erst 1855 erbaut. Bergab gelangt man zum Museum Jagdhaus Gabelbach. Es ist ein einfacher, spätbarocker Zweckbau, der im Sommer 1783 in aller Eile erbaut wurde, um als Gästehaus Herzog Carl August von Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach und seiner Jagdgesellschaft zu dienen. Das heutige Museum vermittelt einen Einblick in die Jagdgewohnheiten, in das gesellige Leben des Weimarer Hofes sowie in Goethes naturwissenschaftliche Studien. Weiter bergab erreichen Sie das Berg- und Jagdhotel Gabelbach eines der schönsten und besten Häuser im Thüringer Wald.  Nach der Hirtenwiese, führt der Weg über die Landstraße nach Neustadt hinab ins malerische Schortetal zum Knöpfelstaler Teich mit Schutzhütte und zum Finsteren Loch mit kleinem Wasserfall.  Bergauf erreichen Sie nach gut 20 Minuten das historische Gasthaus "Auerhahn". Benannt wurde es wie wohl auch der Kickelhahn nach dem Auerhahn, der als größtes Waldhuhn einst in unseren Wäldern heimisch war. Über den Wanderparkplatz erreicht man bergab Stützerbach mit dem Schlossberg und das Gundelachsche Haus, in welchem sich das Museum Goethehaus Stützerbach befindet.
