Was für ein Name! Goethebruch – warum das wohl so ist? Im Jahre 1778 besuchte der Dichter und Gelehrte Johann Wolfgang von Goethe den ersten Steinbruch, in dem der Petersberger Quarzporphyr aktiv abgebaut und für Bauwerke und Straßenbau verwendet wurde. Über seine dichterischen Fähigkeiten hinaus besaß Goethe eine besondere Affinität zur Geologie. Seine wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnisse auf diesem Gebiet brachten ihm ein nach ihm benanntes Mineral ein: den Goethit, der sogar im Goethebruch vorkommt. Durch das Eindringen von Wasser entstand nach und nach ein kleiner See, der aufgrund seines Fischreichtums zum Angeln einlädt. Aber auch bei einer kurzen Wanderung durch Petersberg ist der kleine See ein lohnendes Ziel. Die etwa 3 km lange Wanderung beginnt am Tierpark Petersberg und führt auf guten Wegen mit tollen Aussichten über die Ruine und Stiftskirche Petersberg. Die große romanische Basilika aus dem 12. Jahrhundert sollte als Grablege des Wettiner Fürstengeschlechts dienen. Seit 1999 ist die evangelische Christusbruderschaft Selbitz ansässig und belebt das alte Kloster.

En 1778, le poète et savant Johann Wolfgang von Goethe a visité la première carrière où le porphyre de quartz de Petersberg était activement exploité et utilisé pour la construction de bâtiments et de routes. Au-delà de ses talents littéraires, Goethe avait une affinité particulière pour la géologie. Ses découvertes scientifiques dans ce domaine lui ont valu un minéral nommé en son honneur : le goethite, que l’on trouve même dans le Goethebruch. L’infiltration d’eau a peu à peu formé un petit lac, qui invite à la pêche grâce à sa richesse en poissons. Mais même pour une courte randonnée à travers Petersberg, ce petit lac est une destination intéressante. La randonnée d’environ 3 km commence au parc animalier de Petersberg et suit de bons chemins offrant de superbes vues sur la ruine et l’église collégiale de Petersberg. La grande basilique romane du XIIe siècle devait servir de sépulture à la dynastie princière des Wettin. Depuis 1999, la communauté évangélique Christusbruderschaft Selbitz est établie et anime l'ancienne abbaye.

But even a short hike through Petersberg makes the small lake a worthwhile destination. The approximately 3 km long hike starts at the Petersberg Animal Park and leads on good paths with great views over the ruins and the Petersberg Collegiate Church. The large Romanesque basilica from the 12th century was intended as the burial place of the Wettin princely family. Since 1999, the Protestant Christ Brotherhood Selbitz has been resident and brings the old monastery to life.
