Viernau est le quartier le plus au sud de Steinbach-Hallenberg, entouré de douces montagnes, de forêts, de prairies et de champs. En tant que haut lieu du carnaval, Viernau est connu bien au-delà des frontières de la vallée de la Hasel. Chaque année, de nombreuses manifestations sont organisées pendant la période carnavalesque, ainsi qu'un grand défilé le dimanche de carnaval et le lundi des Roses. Le petit musée de la volaille de Thuringe est unique en Allemagne. Une randonnée jusqu'au but d'excursion de Wuhlheide vaut surtout la peine pour la vue unique sur la vallée et les hauteurs de la forêt de Thuringe jusqu'au Rennsteig.

Viernau is known far beyond the borders of the Hasel Valley as a carnival stronghold. Numerous events and a large parade take place every year during the carnival season on Shrove Sunday and Rose Monday. The Little Thuringian Poultry Museum is unique in Germany. A hike to the Wuhlheide excursion destination is particularly worthwhile because of the unique view of the valley and the mountain ranges of the Thuringian Forest all the way to the Rennsteig.

Alljährlich finden in der närrischen Zeit zahlreiche Veranstaltungen sowie ein großer Umzug am Faschingssonntag und Rosenmontag statt. Deutschlandweit einzigartig ist das Thüringer Geflügelmuseum. Eine Wanderung zum Ausflugsziel Wuhlheide lohnt sich vor allem wegen der einmaligen Aussicht auf das Tal und die Höhenzüge des Thüringer Waldes bis hin zum Rennsteig.
