Kleinschmalkalden liegt in 450-800 m über NN am Südwesthang des Thüringer Waldes und ist ringsum von bewaldeten Bergen umgeben. Die Lage im engen Kerbtal der Schmalkalde mit ihren Nebentälern verleiht dem Ort seinen ganz besonderen Reiz. Die "längste Sehenswürdigkeit" des Thüringer Waldes, der Rennsteig, führt in einem Bogen in ca. 5 km Entfernung vorbei, der Große Inselsberg ist nur 11 km weit. Unzählige Ausflugsziele und Sehenswürdigkeiten in der näheren und weiteren Umgebung können von Kleinschmalkalden aus erwandert oder "erfahren" werden. Durch den Mommelstein- und den Rennsteig-Höhen-Radwanderweg ist Kleinschmalkalden auch für Radfahrer und Mountainbiker interessant. Kleinschmalkalden ist durch Eingemeindung seit Februar 2006 ein Ortsteil der Großgemeinde Floh-Seligenthal.

Kleinschmalkalden is situated at 450-800 m above sea level on the south-western slope of the Thuringian Forest and is surrounded by forested mountains. The location in the narrow valley of the Schmalkalde with its side valleys gives the village its very special charm. The "longest sight" of the Thuringian Forest, the Rennsteig, passes by in a curve at a distance of about 5 km, the Große Inselsberg is only 11 km away. Countless excursion destinations and sights in the near and far surroundings can be hiked to or "experienced" from Kleinschmalkalden. Kleinschmalkalden is also interesting for cyclists and mountain bikers because of the Mommelstein- and the Rennsteig-Höhen-Radwanderweg. Kleinschmalkalden is by incorporation since February 2006 a district of the municipality Floh-Seligenthal.

D'innombrables destinations d'excursion et sites touristiques dans les environs immédiats et plus larges peuvent être atteints à pied ou "vécus" depuis Kleinschmalkalden. Les pistes cyclables de Mommelstein et de Rennsteig-Höhen rendent également Kleinschmalkalden intéressant pour les cyclistes et les vététistes. Kleinschmalkalden a été intégré à la municipalité de Floh-Seligenthal en février 2006.
