Der Park Hohenrode ist die größte historische Parkanlage in Nordhausen. Im 19. Jahrhundert ließ der Nordhäuser Kautabak-Fabrikant Carl Kneiff die heute nach ihm benannte Villa und die umgebenden Grünanlagen bauen. Der bekannte Architekt Ludwig Bohnstedt und der Gartenkünstler Heinrich Siesmayer gestalteten die Anlage. Im Stil englischer Landschaftsgärten pflanzte Siesmayer überwiegend einheimische Bäume wie Ahorn, Linde, Ulme und Eiche, teils rotblättrige, weißblühende Rosskastanien und Trompetenbäume nahe der markanten Villa. Carl und später sein Sohn Fritz Kneiff waren begeisterte Baum- und Gehölzsammler. Sie erweiterten und bereicherten den Park Stück für Stück und so kamen zahlreiche seltene Gehölze hinzu. Heute ist der frei zugängliche Park Hohenrode der einzige Siesmeyer-Park, der in seiner ursprünglichen Form erhalten geblieben ist und nicht überbaut wurde. Eine Bürgerstiftung und ein Förderverein engagieren sich seit Jahren erfolgreich dafür, den gut 140 Jahre alten historischen Park zu erhalten und die Kneiff'sche Villa und weitere Gebäude wie das charmante Kutscherhaus, das heute ein Café beherbergt, oder den klassizistischen Gartenpavillon zu sanieren. Der Förderverein bietet auch Führungen an. Park Hohenrode war ein Außenstandort der Bundesgartenschau 2021 in Erfurt.

Park Hohenrode is the largest historical park in Nordhausen. In the 19th century, the Nordhausen chewing tobacco manufacturer Carl Kneiff had the villa named after him today and the surrounding green spaces built. The well-known architect Ludwig Bohnstedt and the garden artist Heinrich Siesmayer designed the grounds. In the style of English landscape gardens, Siesmayer planted mostly native trees such as maple, lime, elm and oak, some red-leaved, white-blossomed horse chestnut and trumpet trees near the prominent villa. Carl and later his son Fritz Kneiff were enthusiastic collectors of trees and woody plants. They expanded and enriched the park piece by piece and thus numerous rare woody plants were added. Today, the freely accessible Hohenrode Park is the only Siesmeyer Park that has been preserved in its original form and has not been built over. A civic foundation and a sponsoring association have been successfully involved for years in preserving the park, which is a good 140 years old, and in restoring Kneiff's villa and other buildings such as the charming coachman's house, which today houses a café, or the classicist garden pavilion. The association also offers guided tours. Park Hohenrode was an outdoor location for the 2021 Federal Garden Show in Erfurt.
