About: Ellrich, Ellrich, Ellrich

Direkt am Grünen Band, das in Thüringen als Nationales Naturmonument ausgezeichnet ist, liegt die Stadt Ellrich mit ihren sechs Ortsteilen im Naturpark Südharz. Dieses Gebiet im Harz ist schon lange besiedelt - Ellrich wurde 876 zum ersten Mal urkundlich erwähnt und hat seit 1292 Stadtrecht. Die Zorge, die Stadtmauer mit dem Wernaer Tor, der historische Ortskern mit der markanten St. Johanniskirche am Markt und der Stadtwald prägen das Stadtbild in der einstigen Grenzregion. Das älteste Fachwerk-Ensemble ist das Hospital St. Spiritus von 1127. Dort sitzt auch das Heimatmuseum von Ellrich. In der kleinen Kirche direkt nebenan, die 1506 erstmals erwähnt wurde und nur 13 Meter lang ist, können Verliebte standesamtlich heiraten. Das Feuerwehrmuseum im historischen Spritzenhaus hütet Schätze wie ein Löschfahrzeug von 1965 und gibt interessante Einblicke in die Tradition des Brandschutzes. Beide Museen werden ehrenamtlich betrieben und öffnen saisonweise. An das einstige Außenlager des KZ Mittelbau-Dora, Ellrich-Juliushütte, erinnert heute eine Gedenkstätte. Ellrich ist eingebettet in die einzigartige Südharzer Karstlandschaft und die Harzer Wälder. Wanderer finden hier beispielsweise den als Qualitätswanderweg ausgezeichneten Karstwanderweg, Radfahrer den Harzrundweg und die Harzer Mountainbike-Arena. Das Ellricher Waldbad ist im Sommer ein erfrischendes Ausflugsziel.

The oldest half-timbered ensemble is the Hospital St. Spiritus from 1127, where the local history museum of Ellrich is also located. In the small church right next door, which was first mentioned in 1506 and is only 13 metres long, lovers can get married in a civil ceremony. The fire brigade museum in the historical fire engine house keeps treasures like a fire engine from 1965 and gives interesting insights into the tradition of fire protection. Both museums are run by volunteers and open seasonally. The former subcamp of the Mittelbau-Dora concentration camp, Ellrich-Juliushütte, is remembered today by a memorial. Ellrich is embedded in the unique South Harz Karst landscape and the Harz forests. Hikers will find here for example the Karst hiking trail, which has been awarded as a quality hiking trail, cyclists the Harz circular trail and the Harz mountain bike arena. The Ellrich forest bath is a refreshing destination in summer.
