C'est au domaine d'Oßmannstedt, à une dizaine de kilomètres au nord-est de Weimar, que Christoph Martin Wieland vécut des années productives de 1797 à 1803. À 64 ans, Wieland s'était lassé de la vie à la cour de Weimar et avait acheté le manoir baroque d'Oßmannstedt, situé à la campagne. Il était considéré comme l'un des écrivains les mieux payés d'Allemagne et l'un des auteurs les plus influents du siècle des Lumières. Son œuvre littéraire et journalistique est aujourd'hui considérée comme l'acte de naissance du classicisme de Weimar. Le manoir baroque, aujourd'hui un musée dont l'intérieur est encore en partie d'origine, et le parc, où se trouve la tombe de Wieland, donnent un aperçu de la vie et de l'œuvre de cet important poète, traducteur et éditeur. Parmi les objets exposés figurent des meubles et des intérieurs lui ayant appartenu, des sculptures, des peintures, des gravures, des livres, une bibliothèque et une salle de séminaire. En outre, un centre européen de rencontre pour la jeunesse sur des thèmes littéraires, philosophiques et historiques a été créé et offre également des possibilités d'hébergement dans 11 chambres. Le parc adjacent était à l'origine un magnifique jardin à la française, avec des terrasses, des jeux d'eau et de nombreux bassins, qui a été aménagé sous la duchesse Anna Amalia. En 1775, le domaine fut affecté à l'agriculture. La maison des fontaines et son grand bassin donnent aujourd'hui encore une impression de l'aménagement représentatif d'origine. La grotte baroque avec sa gargouille en forme de dauphin est entourée de parterres de fleurs de conception historique.

Christoph Martin Wieland spent productive years at the estate in Oßmannstedt, around ten kilometers north-east of Weimar, from 1797 to 1803. At the age of 64, Wieland had grown tired of life at the Weimar court and bought the rural, baroque manor house in Oßmannstedt. He was considered one of the most highly paid writers in Germany and one of the most influential authors of the Enlightenment. Today, his literary and journalistic work is regarded as the birth of Weimar Classicism. The baroque manor house, now a museum with some of its original interior, and the park where Wieland is buried, provide an insight into the life and work of the important poet, translator and editor. The exhibits include furniture and interiors from his estate, sculptures, paintings, graphic works, books, a library and a seminar room. In addition, a European youth meeting place on literary, philosophical and historical themes has been set up, which also offers overnight accommodation in 11 rooms. The adjoining park was originally a magnificent French-style garden with terraces, water features and numerous pools, which was expanded under Duchess Anna Amalia. The estate was converted to agricultural use in 1775. The fountain house with its large water basin still gives an impression of the original representative design. The baroque grotto complex with the dolphin-shaped gargoyle is surrounded by historically designed flowerbeds.

Auf dem Landgut in Oßmannstedt, etwa zehn Kilometer nordöstlich von Weimar, verlebte Christoph Martin Wieland von 1797 bis 1803 produktive Jahre. Wieland war mit 64 Jahren des Lebens am Weimarer Hofe überdrüssig geworden und kaufte sich das ländlich gelegene, barocke Gutshaus in Oßmannstedt. Er galt als einer der höchsthonorierten Schriftsteller Deutschlands und einer der einflussreichsten Autoren der Aufklärung. Sein literarisches und publizistisches Schaffen gilt heute als Geburtsstunde der Weimarer Klassik. Das barocke Gutshaus, heute ein Museum mit zum Teil noch originalem Interieur, und der Park, in dem sich Wielands Grabstätte befindet, geben Einblicke in das Leben und Wirken des bedeutenden Dichters, Übersetzers und Herausgebers. Zu den Exponaten zählen Möbel und Interieur aus seinem Besitz, Plastiken, Gemälde, Grafiken Bücher, eine Bibliothek und ein Seminarraum. Außerdem wurde eine europäische Jugendbegegnungsstätte zu literarischen, philosophischen und historischen Themen eingerichtet, die auch Übernachtungsmöglichkeiten in 11 Zimmern anbietet. Der angrenzende Park war ursprünglich eine prächtige Gartenanlage französischen Stils, mit Terrassen, Wasserspielen und zahlreichen Bassins, der unter Herzogin Anna Amalia ausgebaut wurde. 1775 wurde das Gut der landwirtschaftlichen Nutzung zugeführt. Einen Eindruck von der ursprünglichen repräsentativen Gestaltung geben heute noch das Brunnenhaus mit großem Wasserbecken. Die barocke Grottenanlage mit dem delphinförmigen Wasserspeier ist mit historisch gestalteten Blumenbeeten umgeben.
