Steinach is a popular destination in the southern part of the Thuringian Forest. Only 7 km from the famous Rennsteig, the small town lies in an idyllic valley surrounded by the mountains of the Thuringian Slate Mountains. Steinach ist ein beliebtes Ziel im südlichen Teil des Thüringer Waldes. Nur 7 km vom berühmten Rennsteig entfernt liegt die kleine Stadt in einem idyllischen Tal, umgeben von den Bergen des Thüringer Schiefergebirges. Erholungssuchende und Wanderer finden hier ganzjährig hervorragende Bedingungen in scheinbar unberührter Natur. Für den sportlich aktiven Urlauber besitzt Steinach mit der Skiarena Silbersattel das größte alpine Skigebiet Thüringens, das sich im Sommer zum Bikepark verwandelt. Abwechslung und Abenteuer findet der Gast ganzjährig im Hochseilgarten, eines der Kernstücke des Outdoor-Parks. Dieser organisiert weitere vielfältige Erlebnistouren, wie zum Beispiel Mountainbiking, Schneeschuh- und Trekkingausflüge, Felsenklettern, Bogenschießen, Offroad Skating, Höhlenexkursionen sowie Fahrten mit dem Conferencebike, dem Mountain Skyver. Steinach ist als Schieferstadt bekannt. Sie erlangte Weltruhm als größter Griffellieferant. "Steinacher Griffel sind die besten!", so stand es auf den Schachteln, in denen ca. 30 Milliarden dieser schlanken Schreibwerkzeuge, gefertigt aus dem heimischen Griffelschiefer, in alle Welt verschickt wurden. Im Deutschen Schiefermuseum wird der Besucher sehr anschaulich über die 400-jährige Geschichte der Griffelproduktion informiert. Interessant ist auch der Besuch der Spielzeugschachtel, der Schiefergru'm und der traditionellen Handwerksbetriebe. Steinach lädt auch gern zum Feiern ein. Neben einer abwechslungsreichen Vereinstätigkeit gibt es feste Größen im Eventkalender der Stadt. Ende Juli treffen sich Künstler im Steinacher Schlosshof, um im Rahmen des Bildhauersymposiums Neues zu schaffen. Am 3. Wochenende im August lockt die Steinacher Kirmes Gäste aus nah und fern zum attraktivsten Volksfest der Region auf den großen Marktplatz. Am 2.
