Der Lutherweg führt von Kahla über die Leuchtenburg weiter nach Osten und umgeht im Rödicht die großen Anhöhen von Kahla, um dann weiter nach Norden abzubiegen und im weiteren Verlauf auf die Saalestadt Jena zu treffen. Diese Rundtour verläuft auf den ersten 5,5 Kilometern identisch mit dem Lutherweg, biegt jedoch nach Seitenbrück Richtung Süden ins Holzland ab und kehrt über den Siebsgraben und den Leubegrund wieder nach Kahla ins Saaletal zurück.  Luthers Aufenthalte in Jena und in weiteren Orten des Saaletals waren vor allem mit dem Radikalreformer Karlstadt verbunden. Eine Gedenktafel an der stadtbildprägenden Margarethenkirche in Kahla teilt mit, dass "in der Zeit der Bilderstürmerei Dr. Martin Luther hier am 23. August 1524" predigte. Wie tags zuvor schon in Jena versuchte er, Karlstadts Einfluss zurückzudrängen. Die mit Karlstadt offen sympathisierende Gemeinde soll Luther bei seinem Gang auf die Kanzel provoziert haben mit einem Kruzifix, das man ihm zerbrochen in den Weg legte. Was er, wie es heißt, "übersehen" haben soll. In Kahla wurde Luthers späterer enger Freund und musikalischer Berater, der Komponist Johann Walter (1496-1570), geboren.

Le chemin Luther mène de Kahla à la Leuchtenburg puis continue vers l'est, évitant dans le Rödicht les grandes hauteurs de Kahla, avant de tourner plus au nord pour rejoindre plus tard la ville de Saale, Jena. Ce parcours circulaire suit pendant les premiers 5,5 kilomètres le chemin Luther, mais bifurque ensuite à Seitenbrück en direction du sud dans la forêt de Holzland, pour revenir par le Siebsgraben et le Leubengrund à Kahla dans la vallée de la Saale. Les séjours de Luther à Jena et dans d'autres lieux de la vallée de la Saale étaient surtout liés au réformateur radical Karlstadt. Une plaque commémorative sur l'église principale Margarethenkirche à Kahla informe que « durant l'époque des iconoclasmes, le Dr. Martin Luther prêcha ici le 23 août 1524 ». Comme la veille à Jena, il tenta de freiner l'influence de Karlstadt. La communauté, qui sympathisait ouvertement avec Karlstadt, aurait provoqué Luther lors de son entrée en chaire en lui lançant un crucifix brisé sur son chemin, ce qu'il aurait, dit-on, « ignoré ». À Kahla est né Johann Walter (1496-1570), ami proche et conseiller musical ultérieur de Luther et compositeur.

The Luther Trail leads from Kahla over the Leuchtenburg further east and bypasses the large elevations of Kahla in Rödicht, then turns northward and eventually meets the Saale city of Jena. This circular route coincides with the Luther Trail for the first 5.5 kilometers, but then turns south towards Holzland at Seitenbrück and returns to Kahla in the Saale valley via Siebsgraben and Leubengrund. Luther's stays in Jena and other towns in the Saale valley were mainly associated with the radical reformer Karlstadt. A memorial plaque on the city-defining Margarethenkirche in Kahla states that "during the time of the iconoclasm, Dr. Martin Luther preached here on August 23, 1524." As he had already done the day before in Jena, he tried to curb Karlstadt's influence. The congregation openly sympathetic to Karlstadt is said to have provoked Luther on his way to the pulpit with a crucifix laid broken in his path, which he supposedly "overlooked." Luther's later close friend and musical advisor, the composer Johann Walter (1496-1570), was born in Kahla.
