La tour forestière d'Iéna est un monument historique et un point de vue populaire dans la forêt d'Iéna. Construite entre 1871 et 1874, cette tour de 25 mètres de haut rend hommage aux soldats du bataillon d'Iéna tombés pendant la guerre franco-allemande de 1870/71. Le soubassement octogonal avec des piliers de soutien en saillie et une tour ronde surmontée d'une couronne de créneaux confère à l'édifice une silhouette marquante. Les noms des soldats tombés au combat sont gravés sur huit plaques métalliques, surmontées d'une couronne d'honneur en métal. Après une longue période de fermeture, la tour forestière a été rouverte au public le 13 septembre 2009, à l'occasion des Journées du patrimoine. Depuis, la société de montagne Forsthaus e.V. s'occupe de la tour et l'ouvre à certaines dates. La plate-forme d'observation offre une vue panoramique impressionnante sur Iéna et le paysage environnant. La tour forestière est une destination qui vaut la peine pour les randonneurs comme pour les amateurs d'histoire.
The forest tower in Jena is a historical monument and popular vantage point in the Jena Forest. Built between 1871 and 1874, the 25-metre-high tower commemorates the soldiers of the Jena battalion who died in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71. The octagonal base with protruding pillars and a round tower with battlements above give the building a striking silhouette. The names of the fallen are engraved on eight metal plates, above which there is a metal wreath of honor. After a long period of closure, the Forstturm was reopened to the public on September 13, 2009, Open Monument Day. Since then, the Berggesellschaft Forsthaus e.V. has looked after the tower and opens it on certain dates. The viewing platform offers an impressive panoramic view of Jena and the surrounding countryside. The Forstturm is a worthwhile destination for hikers and history buffs alike.
Der Forstturm in Jena ist ein historisches Denkmal und beliebter Aussichtspunkt im Jenaer Forst. Errichtet zwischen 1871 und 1874, erinnert der 25 Meter hohe Turm an die im Deutsch-Französischen Krieg 1870/71 gefallenen Soldaten des Jenaer Bataillons. Der achteckige Unterbau mit vorspringenden Stützpfeilern und einem darüberliegenden Rundturm mit Zinnenkranz verleiht dem Bauwerk eine markante Silhouette. Auf acht Metallplatten sind die Namen der Gefallenen eingraviert, über denen sich ein Ehrenkranz aus Metall befindet. Nach einer längeren Schließung wurde der Forstturm am 13. September 2009, dem Tag des offenen Denkmals, wieder für die Öffentlichkeit zugänglich gemacht. Seitdem betreut die Berggesellschaft Forsthaus e.V. den Turm und öffnet ihn zu bestimmten Terminen. Von der Aussichtsplattform bietet sich ein beeindruckender Rundumblick über Jena und die umliegende Landschaft. Der Forstturm ist ein lohnendes Ziel für Wanderer und Geschichtsinteressierte gleichermaßen.
