Von Weimar führt die dreitägige Tour auf dem Radfernweg Thüringer Städtekette in die Landeshauptstadt Erfurt. Auf dem Geraradweg geht es in die Bachstadt Arnstadt und weiter bis Elgersburg, mit Ausblick auf den Thüringer Wald. Entlang des Ilmtalradweges über Ilmenau und Mellingen erreichen Radfahrer schließlich wieder die Klassikerstadt. Abwechslungsreiche Landschaften, Kultur und Geschichte prägen den Streckenverlauf. Viele der Städte entlang der 150 km langen Radtour haben durch die Lage an wichtigen Handelsstraßen und Flüssen schon in früher Zeit Menschen angezogen. Hier kann man auf den Spuren berühmter Persönlichkeiten wie Martin Luther, Johann Sebastian Bach, Goethe, Schiller u.a. radeln. Der landschaftliche Reiz dieser Tour liegt im Kontrast zwischen der bewaldeten Bergkette des Thüringer Waldes und der Weite des Thüringer Beckens. Dabei ist der Weg meist asphaltiert, kürzere Abschnitte verlaufen auf befahrenen Straßen, sind teilweise hügelig oder führen über unbefestigte Wege. Unterwegs kommen die Radfahrer in den Genuss der Thüringer Gastlichkeit: Neben der typischen Bratwurst und den berühmten Klößen werden Wein und Bier aus der Region angeboten.

Ici, on peut pédaler sur les traces de personnages célèbres comme Martin Luther, Johann Sebastian Bach, Goethe, Schiller, entre autres. L’attrait paysager de ce parcours réside dans le contraste entre la chaîne de montagnes boisée de la forêt de Thuringe et l’étendue du bassin de Thuringe. Le chemin est le plus souvent asphalté, avec quelques sections sur routes fréquentées, parfois vallonnées ou sur des chemins non revêtus. En route, les cyclistes profitent de l’hospitalité thuringienne : à côté des célèbres saucisses grillées et des quenelles typiques, sont proposés vins et bières de la région.
