The Eichsfeld The name "Eichsfeld" is the name of a landscape which was first mentioned in 897 as " pago Eichsfelden" in connection with an exchange of goods. The interpretation "Eichsfelden" or "the field of an Aiko / Eiko", is a derivation from "Eichenfeld", because the name of the oak was often used in field names. Again and again, attempts at interpretation from the name "Eysfeld" or "Eyßfeld" as a reference to an area with a harsh and icy climate have also been revived. In addition, there is the sound shift in the language use. From "ch" became "s" or "ss". Good to compare also with the term "ox", which is dialectally called "Osse". Geography The Eichsfeld is located in the middle of Germany. It consists of parts of Thuringia (the administrative district Eichsfeld and partly from the Unstrut Hainich circle), parts of Lower Saxony (partly administrative district Göttingen) and, with 2 Hessian villages, also from parts of Hesse. Thus it is not Thuringia, not Lower Saxony and also not Hesse, but a scenic transition area and a cultural link between these countries. It stands out noticeably from its surroundings in terms of landscape, culture and history. The Eichsfeld with its approx. 1200 square kilometres is regarded as a "scenic individual". In the north it is characterized by the "golden Mark", which presents itself by a very fertile and flat-wavy basin landscape and is therefore called Untereichsfeld. In the south, the Eichsfeld impresses with its idyllic low mountain range landscape, which borders on the Thuringian Basin and is characterised by shell limestone and red sandstone plateaus. The southern Eichsfeld is therefore called Obereichsfeld called. The dividing line between the Upper and Lower Eichsfeld is characterized by a steep slope and is also part of the language border that goes right across Germany. The abrupt transition of the Thuringian Upper German dialect into the Eastphalian and Lower Saxon dialect, the Plattdeutsch, is striking. Inhabitants Today about 170,000 people live in the Eichsfeld in neat and well-kept towns and villages. The loving care of home and farm belongs to one of the basic mentalities of the inhabitants. So is the deeply rooted catholic faith. Bodenstein The village of Wintzingerode is an exception. The predominant Protestant denomination here originates from the changeable course of history. In the 16th century, the upheavals caused by the Peasants' War and the Reformation hit the country very hard. First subjected to the Reformation, the Counter-Reformation naturally followed. The lords of Bodenstein Castle defied the Counter-Reformation in 1574 and so did the associated community of Wintzingerode. Duderstadt The barrier-free town Duderstadt, the "Pearl of the Eichsfeld is considered one of the most beautiful half-timbered towns in Germany. The historic town layout has remained almost unchanged for more than 700 years. The towers of the St. Cyriakus Church and the St. Servatius Church loom large and mighty. Au nord, elle est caractérisée par la "marque d'or", qui se présente par un paysage de bassin très fertile et plat et ondulé et qui est donc appelée Untereichsfeld. Duderstadt La ville sans barrières Duderstadt, la "perle de l'Eichsfeld". est considérée comme l'une des plus belles villes à colombages d'Allemagne. La configuration historique de la ville est restée pratiquement inchangée depuis plus de 700 ans. Les tours de l'église St Cyriakus et de l'église St Servatius sont grandes et puissantes. Tourné la tour de la Westerturm, qui a été construite avec Warten, Wall et Wall déjà il y a plusieurs centaines d'années pour protéger la ville. Plus de 550 maisons à colombages colorées de différentes époques s'alignent harmonieusement dans une unité unique. L'hôtel de ville, couronné par trois tours orielles, a été construit au début du 14ème siècle et combine des styles architecturaux allant du gothique à la Renaissance dans une rare harmonie. Die Deutung „Eichsfelden“ bzw. „das Feld eines Aiko/Eiko“, ist eine Ableitung aus „Eichenfeld“, da der Name der Eiche in Flurnamen häufig verwendet wurde. Immer wieder neu belebt wurden auch Deutungsversuche aus dem Namen „Eysfeld“ oder „Eyßfeld“ als Hinweis auf ein Gebiet mit einem rauen und eisigen Klima. Hinzu kommt die Lautverschiebung im Sprachgebrauch. Aus „ch“ wurde „s“ oder „ss“. Gut zu vergleichen auch bei dem Begriff „Ochse“, welcher mundartlich als „Osse“ bezeichnet wird. Geografie Das Eichsfeld befindet sich in der Mitte Deutschlands. Es besteht aus Teilen Thüringens (dem Landkreis Eichsfeld und teilweise aus dem Unstrut-Hainich-Kreis), Teilen Niedersachsens (teilweise Landkreis Göttingen) und, mit 2 hessischen Dörfern, auch aus Teilen Hessens. Somit ist es nicht Thüringen, nicht Niedersachsen und auch nicht Hessen, sondern ein landschaftliches Übergangsgebiet und ein kulturelles Bindeglied zwischen diesen Ländern. Es hebt sich landschaftlich, kulturell und historisch von seiner Umgebung merklich ab. Das Eichsfeld gilt mit seinen ca. 1200 km² als „landschaftliches Individuum“. Im Norden geprägt durch die „goldene Mark“, die sich durch eine fruchtbare und flachwellige Beckenlandschaft präsentiert und daher als Untereichsfeld bezeichnet wird. Im Süden besticht das Eichsfeld durch seine idyllische Mittelgebirgslandschaft, welche an das Thüringer Becken grenzt und geprägt ist durch Muschelkalk- und Buntsandsteinhochflächen. Das südliche Eichsfeld wird daher als Obereichsfeld bezeichnet. Die Trennungslinie zwischen Ober- und Untereichsfeld ist gekennzeichnet durch einen Steilabfall und ist zugleich auch Teil der Sprachgrenze, die quer durch Deutschland geht. Auffallend ist der schlagartige Übergang der thüringischen oberdeutschen Mundart in die ostfälische und niedersächsische Mundart, dem Plattdeutsch. Die im Eichsfeld entspringenden Gewässer orientieren sich rasch nach zwei verschiedenen Fließrichtungen, obwohl ihre Quellen oft nur einige hundert Meter voneinander entfernt zutage treten. Leine, Rhume, Hahle, Frieda zur Weser bzw. Werra, während die Unstrut und Wipper zur Saale und dann zur EIbe streben. Einwohner Heute leben im Eichsfeld rund 170.000 Menschen. Die liebevolle Pflege von Heim und Hof gehört zu einer der grundlegenden Mentalitäten der Einwohner. Ebenso der tief verwurzelte katholische Glaube. Eine Ausnahme bildet hier das Dorf Wintzingerode. Die hier vorherrschende evangelische Glaubensrichtung entspringt dem wechselhaften Lauf der Geschichte. Im 16. Jahrhundert trafen die Umwälzungen durch Bauernkrieg und Reformation das Land sehr hart. Zuerst der Reformation unterworfen, folgte die Gegenreformation. Der Gegenreformation im Jahr 1574 trotzen die Herren der Burg Bodenstein und somit auch die dazugehörige Gemeinde Wintzingerode. Duderstadt Die barrierefreie Stadt Duderstadt, die „Perle des Eichsfeldes“, gilt als eine der schönsten Fachwerkstädte Deutschlands. Der historische Stadtgrundriss ist seit mehr als 700 Jahren nahezu unverändert. Groß und mächtig ragen die Türme der St.-Cyriakus-Kirche und der St.-Servatius-Kirche empor. Der Westerturm ist mit seiner schraubenartig gedrehten Spitze ein Wahrzeichen Duderstadts und wurde gemeinsam mit Warten, Wall und Mauer bereits vor vielen hundert Jahren zum Schutze der Stadt errichtet. In einmaliger Geschlossenheit reihen sich mehr als 550 Fachwerkhäuser verschiedener Stilepochen aneinander. Das von drei Erkertürmen gekrönte Rathaus, Wahrzeichen der Stadt, wurde zu Beginn des 14. Jahrhunderts erbaut und vereint Baustile von der Gotik bis zur Renaissance.
